Job Description



PURPOSE AND SCOPE:

Supports other staff by performing task oriented duties while providing clerical, analytical, administrative, and /or operational s upport under general supervision. The Lead assumes responsibility for operations when manager or supervisor is not available. Lead workers have a higher level of knowledge and advises and informs other workers. The position is a non-supervisory position in a department with five plus workers. Performs basic cleaning and custodial duties in assigned area(s). Involves extensive physical labor, safety and works with cleaning products.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Provides advice and information to other workers as to the proper running of a department; m ay provide servic es or products to customers when decisions must generally be made without delay
  • Cleans assigned area to standards s et by college and supervisor; d uties include, but are not limited to, dusting, sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, waxing, washing windows, cleaning and restocking restrooms, picking up and emptying trash; a ssigned areas cover the entire campus complex and may include classrooms, offices, Library Resource Center, restrooms, locker room, cafeteria, hallways, stairways, elevators, common areas
  • Utilizes s pecialized equipment, strips, waxes and buff s hard floors
  • Cleans carpeting and properly mixes and labels chemicals and cleaning fluids
  • May set up or break down tables/chairs, rooms as assigned
  • Maintains safety standards at all times including not mixing chemicals and cleaners, using equipment properly, identifying unsafe areas to students/faculty/others, lifting, stooping and bending properly
  • Responsible for other reasonable, related duties as assigned


  • KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
    • Strong attention to detail
    • Demonstrated proficiency in use of custodial equipment neede d to accomplish assigned duties
    PHYSICAL ABILITIES:
    • Picking, pinching, typing, or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand as in handling, and with the whole hand
    • Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move ob jects, including the human body
    • Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and to make the discrimination i n sound
    • Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction
    • Ability to convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other w orkers accurately and concisely
    • Close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer ter minal; and/or extensive reading
    WORK SCHEDULE AND CONDITIONS:
    • Equipment used includes, b room, mop, vacuum, and other general equipment incidental to the performance of custodial duties
    • Interface with internal and external contacts as needed to carry out the functions of the position
    • Work is performed inside and outdoors, with exposure to dust, dirt, etc.
    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
    • High School Diploma and at least 3 years of related work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
    • Associates Degree

    Hiring salary range is $33,540 to $38,571

    Lone Star College provides a hiring salary range for all posted full-time non-faculty positions. Where your salary offer would fall in that range is determined by your related experience and education. Should you receive an offer of employment from Lone Star College, the resume submitted in the application process will be utilized to calculate your salary offer.
