The Director of Volunteer and Alumni Engagement (Director) is responsible for implementing and expanding on a comprehensive strategy and programs to achieve and support meaningful engagement between The American College of Financial Services and its community of constituents, including volunteers, alumni, designee holders, students, donors, and corporate partners (“Constituents”). The Director will manage and support the Alumni Council, a volunteer group that engages with and supports a network of over 170,000 alumni and designee holders. The Director will manage and support the NextGen Advisory Task Force, a volunteer group that connects with the next generation of alumni, students, and financial services professionals.  
 

The Director will provide leadership and strategic direction to how The College manages and engages with volunteers, with emphasis on partnering with The College’s Centers of Excellence to support each Center as they engage their volunteer Advisory Councils. The Director will develop and advocate best practices for volunteer management, and develop and host an annual Volunteer Leadership Summit for all College volunteers.
 

Within the Advancement team, the Director will work in partnership with the Assistant Vice President of Advancement Services, Executive Director of Development, Executive Director of Special Events, and Donor Stewardship Manager to improve constituent records, data integrity, and reporting, promote annual giving, drive event awareness and participation, and steward Constituents. Across The College, the Director will partner with Academics (i.e., faculty, Student Experience, the Registrar), Marketing and Communications, Business Development, Career Services, and the Centers of Excellence.
 

Essential Functions

 

Alumni Council

  • Manage, support, and provide strategic direction to the Alumni Council, a dedicated group of volunteers who assist The College in strengthening the relationships with and between its Constituents through programs and networking
  • Support the Alumni Council committees, including the Executive Committee, Recruiting and Recognition Committee, Student Experience Committee, and Outreach Committee
  • Organize, manage, and lead the annual in-person Alumni Council meeting and quarterly virtual meetings
  • With the Alumni Council, promote and support The College’s designation and degree programs, annual Professional Recertification Program, student retention and persistence, continuing education opportunities, events, and Centers of Excellence

Volunteer Management

  • Manage, support, and provide strategic direction to the NextGen Advisory Task Force, a group of young volunteers who assist with raising the level of awareness of the financial planning profession, establishing best practices for next-generation advisors, and helping attract next-generation clients
  • Establish best practices for volunteer management, including confidentiality agreements, bylaws, mission statements, and volunteer expectations
  • Partner with the Office of the President to guide the President’s Roundtable and with the Centers of Excellence to guide each Centers’ advisory council through the adherence of best practices
  • Plan and implement the inaugural Volunteer Leadership Summit on November 4, 2022, that will bring together The College’s community of volunteers. This will become an annual event.

Donor Retention and Acquisition

  • Serve as the primary or secondary relationship manager for all Alumni Council and NextGen Advisory Task Force members
  • Support the Advancement team’s Donor Retention and Donor Acquisition goals by promoting annual giving to College Constituents

Communications and Marketing

  • Partner with The College’s Marketing and Communications department to develop, implement, and manage communications that engage and connect The College’s Constituents, including a quarterly ENewsletter, Constituent-focused Foleon, website, targeted emails, and social media pages
  • Partner with The College’s Marketing and Communications department to convene an intentional group of volunteers from across The College’s Constituent community to serve as College brand ambassadors

Career Services

  • Partner with the College’s new Director of Career Services to promote career services resources that benefit College Constituents

College Events

  • Partner with the Special Events team, Marketing, and Communications, and the Centers of Excellence to drive awareness of and attendance at The College’s signature events, including Women Working in Wealth, the Conference of African American Financial Professionals, Clambake and Military and Veterans Leadership Symposium, and the President’s Dinner. Build a culture of engagement and philanthropy among constituents.

Commencement Committee

  • Serve as a leader on The College’s Commencement Committee, and work to plan and implement the inaugural Commencement from April 28-29, 2023. This will become an annual or bi-annual event.

Awards and Recognition

  • Promote the accomplishments of College alumni and designee holders, especially through the following College-sponsored awards and recognition activities:
  • With the Alumni Council, collect nominations, thoughtfully consider, and award the annual Alumni Hall of Fame and NextGen Financial Services Professional Awards
  • Support the Conference of African American Financial Professionals to amplify and celebrate the annual Lang Dixon Award
  • Support the Military and Veterans Center to amplify and celebrate the annual Soldier-Citizen Award
  • Support the Women’s Center to amplify and celebrate the annual Women Working in Wealth Award
  • Support the Office of the President to amplify and celebrate the annual Solomon S. Huebner Gold Medal and President’s Award

Data Management

  • Maintain up-to-date and accurate records for all College volunteers within a constituent relationship database.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Demonstrated experience managing volunteers and boards and/or working for an association or affinity groups preferred
  • Strong project design and management skills, and the ability to manage multiple projects within budget, and on schedule
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Comfortable working in a team-oriented environment, but also must be disciplined to work independently and with limited resources and support
  • Knowledge of and interest in financial services and philanthropy preferred
  • Sincere interest in building meaningful and lasting relationships
  • Ability to translate priorities into action plans and results
  • Ability to work in digital content and design platforms. Canva, Foleon, and HubSpot experience preferred
  • Experience working with vendors and consultants
  • Ability to track interactions in a constituent relationship database. Raiser’s Edge experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated skills with Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with general office equipment
