Reporting to the VP, Administration, and CHRO, the Senior HR Business Partner is responsible for a variety of high-level administrative and generalist HR functions to provide efficient operations and new hire orientation/onboarding activities. This role is a key point of contact for faculty and professional staff regarding HR processes and procedures and HR workflows.
 

The current hybrid schedule requires HR team members to be in the office one day a week.

Organizational Role

This role will provide guidance and support for the day-to-day operations of the Human Resources office as well as faculty/professional staff programs/events and learning initiatives. They will manage the implementation of HR policies, procedures, compensation, benefits, and report writing. They will coordinate HR projects, payroll processing meetings, and oversees system on-boarding requirements for new hires.  They will also participate in compensation analysis and program management, benefits negotiations, and contract renewals and offers guidance and clarity on all College benefit programs. They will act as a liaison to external vendors, auditors, benefits, HRIS consultants, and providers.
 

Essential Functions:

  • Works closely with HR team members on all aspects of HR operations, including service requests; performance management process; onboarding and offboarding; HRIS; training and development; and other duties as needed.
     
  • Supports The College’s on-boarding and off-boarding programs including new hire orientation, resource sharing, IT notifications, and maintains new hire and termination checklists.
     
  • Administers HRIS and partners with Payroll Department to review payroll change notices for appropriate authorizations; input changes to Paycom and PeopleSoft systems; provide payroll data and coordinate with Accounting on payroll expense entries and resolve payroll issues as necessary. Leads bi-weekly payroll and benefits team meetings.  Instructs HR staff on changes in payroll processing schedules, withholding requirements, etc.
     
  • Works as SME for HRBP, Benefits to oversee annual open enrollment; 403(b) committee meetings and audits; and preparation of plan communication materials, meetings, and training.
     
  • Coordinates College’s Tuition Assistance Programs for faculty/professional staff.
     
  • Resolves high-level faculty and staff benefit issues.
     
  • Works closely with benefits consultant to administer benefit program and ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local laws (e.g., COBRA, HIPPA notifications).
     
  • Assist HR Business Partner, Recruitment during the onboarding process and coordinate and ensure follow-through on new hire orientation, using detailed checklist: payroll, equipment, supervisor’s checklist, etc.  Ensure accuracy, compliance, and proper maintenance of I9 forms. 
     
  • Stay abreast of HR compliance issues and trends and maintains HR law postings and updates.
     
  • Collaborate with HR staff on Intranet management. Make weekly updates to the homepage with Human Resources news. Keep Human Resources department page up to date with current events and policies.
     
  • Lead planning of faculty/ staff activities and events such as: Family Day, Faculty/Staff Appreciation Day, and December Holiday Party.
     
  • Coordinate Employee Engagement Surveys. Collect data and implement action planning with CHRO and Culture Committee.
     
  • Work closely with other HR team members on all aspects of HR operations, including service requests, performance management process, offboarding checklist, Paycom systems, training and development initiatives, and other duties as needed.
     
  • Serves as backup for The College’s pension activation requests and 403(b) retirement plan enrollments, loans and distributions, FMLA, Short/Long Term Disability, and PTO Donation Program. Maintains various summary plan descriptions and coordinates materials for audits and compliance reports (e.g., 5500).
     
  • Manages special projects, prepares and analyzes data, writes reports, and performs other duties as necessary and assigned. Participates on College-wide committees as needed.

Required Education, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resource Management or related field plus three to five years of related work experience in a service-oriented and fast-paced HR Department. SHRM and/or HRCI certification preferred.
     
  • Working knowledge of federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations including but not limited to ADEA, FLSA, FMLA, ADA, EEOC, FFCRA, payroll, and benefits; and understanding of HR philosophy, objectives, trends, techniques, principles, and practices.
     
  • Must be self-directed and possess exceptional organizational skills with the ability to work independently or as part of a team, multi-task, meet deadlines, and quickly adapt to changing priorities.
     
  • A high degree of professionalism with high-level communication and interpersonal skills to effectively deal with faculty, professional staff, vendors, and customers using good judgment.
     
  • Proactive decision-making skills and ability to take ownership in a service-oriented and team-based environment.
     
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and HRIS programs (e.g., PeopleSoft, Paycom).
     
  • Ability to maintain a high level of accuracy, attention to detail, and confidentiality.
     
  • Understanding of payroll processing.

 Supervisory Accountability

  Hires and directs work for the summer intern program.  Provides guidance on HR activities.
