Position Title Accounting Technician III Residency Requirement Applicants must be a Colorado resident. Responsibilities The Office of the Controller provides the following services: Accounting, Accounts Payable, Student Accounting & Billing, Contracting & Procurement and Payroll & Employment to the Mines community and its numerous off-campus partners in support of the University's mission. This support is governed by the key principles of customer service, regulatory compliance and fiscal accountability.

Accounts Payable duties include:
  • Processes payments at the request of the departments. This includes, but is not limited to reviewing backup documentation for appropriateness, completeness, correctness and funding availability.
  • Audits backup documentation, accounting codes, and necessary approvals.
  • Enter journal entries into the expense system to move funds appropriately as requested.
Travel Reporting & System Management duties include:
  • Initial preparation of travel and expense reports. During the initial preparation, this position audits the expenses, receipts, and account codes to ensure correctness and University compliance.
  • Audits and approves Travel Authorization (TA) and Travel Expense (TE) reports. Travel Authorization reports are initial travel authorizations used in conjunction with Mines affiliated travel.
  • This position is responsible for assisting with various IT system implementation, system maintenance, testing and approving system upgrades, and varying IT support for the travel and expense management system.
  • The position is also responsible for on-going report preparation training for current employees and all new employee hires.
Front Desk Support duties include:
  • Provides backup for the Service Excellence Specialists/Front Desk
  • Monitor MAPS (Mines Administrative Processing Service) lnbox for AP opportunities and create tickets in the ticketing system and send initial approval request.
  • Intake of New Hire paperwork, verification of 1-9 documents etc.
Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience:

Three years of technical accounting experience which included use of financial/accounting systems and/or travel and expense systems. Must be able to exercise sound judgment and make decisions independently. Experience must include providing excellent customer service via face-to-face interactions, telephone and email. Must possess outstanding attention to detail, organizational, problem solving and interpersonal skills, along with proficiency with word processing and spreadsheets. Part time work will be pro-rated.

Preferred Qualifications
Desired Qualifications:

Prior relevant state experience in higher education administration.
Prior experience interpreting travel policies and preparing travel expense reports

College, university or non-correspondence business school course work may substitute on a year-for-year basis for the general clerical or administrative services experience but not for the specific experience. $46,572 - $50,000
