Job Summary
The Department of Civil, Environmental & Architectural Engineering is seeking a highly motivated and independent individual with federally funded project management experience. The Project Manager will assist with the planning and execution of small and large-scale experiments, help coordinate research and development activities between academic institutions and industry partners, and provide programmatic support, including quarterly report preparation and submission, for two large interdisciplinary research projects. The Project Manager will also be expected to contribute to enhancing the vision and mission of a vibrant, cross-disciplinary collaborative research team at the University of Colorado Boulder at the intersection of microbiology, cement chemistry, materials science, and civil and architectural engineering.

Who We Are
The Department of Civil, Environmental and Architectural Engineering and the Materials Science and Engineering Program invites applications for a full-time Project Manager position in the Living Materials Laboratory under the supervision of Prof. Wil Srubar. In concert with the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, the National Institute of Standards and Technology, the United States Geological Survey, which are also located in the area, the University of Colorado Boulder provides an outstanding, world-class environment for conducting advanced materials science and engineering research at the bleeding edge.
What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be
- Assist with the design and execution of mid- and large-scale microalgae cultivation and materials science experiments in support of project goals and milestones.
- Provide biweekly programmatic management and oversight on large research projects.
- Draft, review, and submit project technical and financial reports and presentations.
- Assist the PI with general, day-to-day laboratory management of personnel and related activities.
- Work collaboratively with a diverse, interdisciplinary team of graduate students and research scientists, internal and external to the University of Colorado Boulder.
- Interface with public and private funding agencies, global cement manufacturers, and large-scale algae cultivators, as appropriate.
- Assist with the collection, preparation, and analysis of data for publication in high-quality scientific journals.
- Prepare visual media for scientific and technical audiences.
- Participate in innovation and entrepreneurship training programs, conferences, and workshops.

The annual salary associated with this position is $90,000.

What We Require
- A M.S. or Ph.D. in civil engineering, biological engineering, materials science, environmental engineering, or a related field.
- 2-5 years of experience managing large, interdisciplinary Research & Development (R&D) activities or projects.
- Excellent organization, communication, and technical writing skills.
- An ability to work independently and possess a strong passion for (and commitment to) sustainability and interdisciplinary science and engineering.
- A strong interest in innovation, commercialization, and entrepreneurship.
- More than 5 years of experience managing large, interdisciplinary R&D activities or projects.
