Job Description

The Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication and Arizona PBS seek a Research Advancement Specialist to join its fiscal and business operations team. This position will play a key role in supporting research investigators in the areas of proposal preparation, award compliance, and fiscal oversight.

Essential Duties

  • Performing funding searches to help identify opportunities
  • Reviewing funding announcements and providing guidance on eligibility and sponsor requirements
  • Submitting applications to Office of Research and Sponsored Project Administration for review, signature, and transmittal to sponsor
  • Guidance and assistance in preparing administrative post award management including At-Risks, Pre-Award Costs, re-budgets, and No Cost Extensions
  • Account monitoring and reconciling, Expense Transfers, Effort Reporting, Resource to research investigators and departmental business staff on Sponsor policies and regulations regarding the administration of award funds
  • Monitor performance against budget and prepares analysis of variance reports for management.
  • Monitor account balance activity through report review to identify problems and/or questionable areas including, but not limited to: re-budget need, indirect cost reconciliations, no-cost extensions and carry over account issues.
  • Prepare standard accounting reports and statements and also non-standard reports and statements, such as detailed cost and financial analysis, forecasts and projections.
  • Distribute expenses amount accounts to ensure accurate accounting of the use of funds; performs account reconciliations.
  • Implement internal control measures to ensure compliance with applicable policies and procedures.

 

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a related field. Five years of experience in a field appropriate to the area/unit of assignment OR Any equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skill and abilities have been achieved.

 

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience handling project proposal reviews, transmittals, data, and reports.
  • Experience in analyzing information and ensuring accuracy of sponsored projects data.
  • Experience in assisting principal investigator, faculty, and staff with pre-and post-award grants and contracts processes.
  • Experience in following standard practices and procedures in analyzing situations or data from which answers can be readily identified.
  • Experience in working with Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word and Workday.
  • Experience in adapting to new technology.
  • Experience in coordinating activities and establishing priorities.
  • Experience in preparing detailed documents, proposals, reports, and/or related materials.
  • Team oriented; able to effectively respond to routine situations involving potentially several university constituencies; able to follow directions set by unit and/or supervisor.
  • Experience in establishing and maintaining effective professional working relationships.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of overall unit objectives/goals with ability to work effectively across boundaries with potential for conflict
  • Experience in providing ideas and recommendations to resolve routine issues; has general understanding of requirements for assigned responsibilities.

 

Working Environment

Our office is located at 555 North Central Avenue, Phoenix.

  • Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding, and manipulating a computer mouse
  • Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts
  • Communicate to perform essential functions
  • Use standard office equipment including, but not limited to computer workstation/laptop (keyboard, monitor, mouse), printer, calculator, copier, telephone and associated computer/technology peripherals
