The Department of English Language and Literature at Gardner-Webb University is hiring a full-time Visiting Assistant Professor and Director of the University Writing Center. The position is campus-based and carries a non-tenure track, renewable contract beginning in January 2023.

Primary responsibilities include directing the University Writing Center that serves students and faculty across all disciplines at Gardner-Webb University, including traditional undergraduate, degree completion, and graduate students. As part of that role, the director assesses program outcomes, provides updates and reports for the Dean of Student Success and other stakeholders, and provides support and outreach for faculty across campus. In addition, the Director will teach one class per semester in first-year writing, rhetoric and composition, or other advanced writing studies. The successful candidate will join a department dedicated to helping students foster meaningful intellectual thought, critical analysis, and spiritual challenge through the study of composition and rhetoric, literature, creative writing, and linguistics.

A PhD in a field within writing studies is required. Preferred qualities include a terminal degree emphasis in rhetoric and composition, teaching experience, and experience with first-year writing or writing centers.
