Assistant or Associate Professor, Global Commerce

The Global Commerce program at Denison University invites applications for a tenure-track position at the assistant or associate professor level beginning in Fall 2023. We seek a candidate broadly trained in International Economics.

Global Commerce is a thriving, innovative interdisciplinary major that trains students to think critically and creatively about how global exchanges of goods, services, information, money, and structures of power shape and are shaped by a wide variety of economic, political, cultural, social, and environmental factors. Through the integration of curricular and co-curricular experiences, Global Commerce majors learn to understand the dynamics of global commerce and put their thinking into practice. The successful candidate will collaborate on the development of our Statistics for Global Commerce course. Additional teaching responsibilities will include Global Commerce 301: Global Financial Markets, rotating responsibilities for the senior capstone course, and possible opportunities to teach the other Global Commerce Core Courses. (For details on our Global Commerce curriculum and course descriptions, please see: https://denison.edu/academics/global-commerce.) The teaching load is 5 courses per year, the largest of which is capped at 25 students.

Applicants must have evidence of effective teaching skills, a commitment to excellence in liberal arts teaching at the undergraduate level, a clearly articulated desire to contribute to the development of this program, and a demonstrated research agenda in the area of international economics. Additional work experience in the business or non-profit sectors is strongly desired as a complement to academic expertise. Candidates from traditionally underrepresented backgrounds are encouraged to apply.

Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate a commitment to fostering a classroom and research environment that engages students from diverse backgrounds. Our commitment to being an antiracist, diverse and inclusive learning and working community is essential to our educational mission. For more information on ways we are committing to be a campus community dedicated to antiracism please see President Adam Weinberg’s statement denison.edu/campus/president/speeches/135388.

Denison, located 30 miles from the Columbus, OH, metropolitan area, is an increasingly diverse, highly selective, residential liberal arts college enrolling approximately 2300 students from across the nation and around the world.

We will begin reviewing applications on November 15, 2022 and continue to accept applications until the position is filled. We will conduct our first-round Zoom interviews with prospective candidates starting on January 2, 2023. We require candidates to have their PhD in hand by the start date in August 2023.

Applicants should submit the following electronic application materials on-line at apply.interfolio.com/113048: (1) a cover letter that includes discussion of interest in our interdisciplinary approach to Global Commerce, commitment to liberal arts teaching, a brief description of the candidate’s research agenda, and a statement addressing their potential to foster and support antiracism, diversity and inclusion among our students, faculty, and community; (2) curriculum vitae; (3) a writing sample; and (4) three letters of recommendation from academic references.
