The University of Florida Department of Gender, Sexuality, and Women’s Studies invites applications for three nine-month, full-time, tenure track, Assistant Professor positions to begin on August 16, 2023, in the following areas:

Black Feminist Studies

We seek a scholar with a strong record of research, teaching, and service grounded in Black feminist studies. Emphasis in any areas of Black feminist studies is welcome (e.g., diasporic feminisms, disability studies, health equity, media and cultural studies, social movements). Applicants should be trained in and have research and teaching experience in feminist, gender, queer/sexualities, and/or women’s studies. The successful candidate will complement the Department’s existing research programs on Black and women of color feminist perspectives. In addition, the successful candidate will add to the Department’s curricular strengths in this area, with teaching responsibilities that contribute to the major’s required core on race; the major’s specialization track in race, power, and social justice; and the graduate MA and Ph.D. Certificate offerings.

Health Disparities and Equity

We seek a scholar with a strong record of research, teaching, and service in health disparities and equity. Applicants should have a grounding in gender, race, and sexuality perspectives in health disparities and equity; additional areas of expertise are also welcome (e.g., disability studies, health care access and delivery, social determinants of health). Applicants should be trained in and have research and teaching experience in feminist, gender, queer/sexualities, and/or women’s studies. The successful candidate will complement the Department’s existing research programs in health disparities and equity. In addition, the successful candidate will add to the Department’s curricular strengths in this area, with teaching responsibilities that contribute to the major’s specialization in health equity and social justice, the popular minor in health disparities and society, and the graduate MA and Ph.D. Certificate offerings. Teaching responsibilities for this position include Introduction to Health Disparities and coordinating the Practicum in Health Disparities (e.g., cultivating practicum sites, placing students, overseeing student training at sites).

All candidates are expected to contribute enthusiastically to the mission of the Department and College by maintaining a productive research program, pursuing external funding, supervising undergraduate and graduate students, teaching required courses and needed electives that contribute to the Department’s undergraduate and graduate curricula and to College and University initiatives (e.g., UF Quest, CLAS Beyond120), and engaging actively in the life and success of the Department and the College.

The Department of Gender, Sexuality, and Women’s Studies has strong undergraduate and graduate academic programs. Specifically, the Department has 500+ undergraduate majors, minors, MA, and Graduate Certificate students. It also offers a robust experiential learning program, placing 200+ students in 30+ internship and practicum sites per year. Advertised Salary:

The salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, and includes a full benefits package.
