Brief Statement of Duties
Brief Statement of Duties:
The Assistant Professor is a campus-based. tenure-track position open to individuals specializing in inorganic chemistry.
Teaching assignments will include a sophomore-level course (CH 215-Chemistry of the Elements) and a senior-level course (CH415- Inorganic Chemistry) in addition to other courses dependent on departmental needs or candidate's expertise. It is expected that the successful candidate will establish a research program that would actively involve undergraduates and also contribute to Departmental and University service activities.
The Department of Chemistry has 20 full-time faculty and offers undergraduate degrees in ACS-certified chemistry, biochemistry, forensic biochemistry, and medicinal plant chemistry. Instruction at the collegiate level is required. Teaching experience can be in the lecture, recitation or laboratory setting.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, or Attributes Required for Satisfactory Performance of the Position Duties:
Excellent oral and written communication skills and time management skills
Commitment to undergraduate education and demonstrated excellence in teaching
Ability to develop research projects appropriate for NMU and appropriate for undergraduate involvement.
Excellent problem-solving skills and laboratory diagnostic capabilities
Ability to work well with an instructional team, including but not limited to fellow instructors and laboratory assistants
