Michigan State University's Department of History seeks a historian with research expertise in South Asian History in the pre-modern period, with a preference for late medieval and early modern.  This is a 9-month tenure system position at the rank of Assistant Professor. The candidate must be able to teach classes on South Asian history, Asian history more broadly, and world history. The successful candidate will enhance department and college research strengths in a variety of areas and is expected to promote collaborations with scholars in other units across the university.  

The teaching load is two courses per semester. Evidence of excellence in scholarship and a strong commitment to teaching is expected.  The successful candidate will be expected to pursue external funding in the form of grants and fellowships. Salary, benefits, and support for research are competitive. Full-time academic year appointment will begin on August 16, 2023.

  • A PhD at the time of employment is required.
