About the Opportunity

Job Summary and Responsibilities:

Under the general direction of the Assistant Vice President for Capital Projects, this position is responsible for the oversight and management of an assigned capital project portfolio including providing support to projects in planning and management through all phases of design, construction, turnover and closeout. The project portfolio will include a diverse group of project types including research and teaching laboratories, student housing, classrooms, offices, athletic facilities, deferred maintenance and other specialized projects. The scope of projects will range from small scale to large multi-million-dollar projects. The position will contribute to the development and organization of project management processes and procedures to support the activities of the Capital Projects Group. Responsibilities: Provide the leadership required to achieve complete client satisfaction in terms of project scope, quality, cost management, schedule and communications. Coordinate and manage multiple technically complex capital project activities with in-house staff, external PM resources, design consultants and contractors. Responsibilities will include solicitation of consultants and contractors and preparation and administration of contracts. Provide leadership and oversight for the day-to-day operations for all construction, project management and project administration activities for your portfolio of projects. Responsible for the management of assigned senior project managers, project managers, assistant project managers, and/or project support staff, as required. Develop and maintain monthly cost forecasting, schedule development and oversight, communications and reporting for the assigned project portfolio via the use of e-Builder project management system. Preparation and delivery of clear, concise and consistent reporting to all internal and external project stakeholders including Planning, Real Estate and Facilities, clients and representatives from the Senior Leadership Team. Manage, coordinate and provide PM support for all phases of the project delivery process from project planning through closeout. This requires coordinating project work with interdepartmental groups and working with all levels of the University. This position requires knowledge and experience to interact and effectively communicate with diverse University constituents including but not limited to; the Planning, Real Estate & Facilities Division, Public Safety, Information Technology Services, University Council, Risk Management, Community Affairs and Environmental Health & Safety. Review planning and contract documents prepared by external consultants to ensure compliance with University standards and requirements. Prepare financial analyses and total project cost estimates. Develop, track, and manage budgets during course of project via the project management system. Perform contract administration. Serve as the University's representative to external agencies including; Federal, State and local officials on assigned projects. Responsibilities include problem-solving requiring analysis and complex decision-making. Maintain current knowledge of all applicable regulations and codes for design and construction projects. Must have experience with the permitting process in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and city of Boston. Position requires ability to access all areas of construction sites including climbing ladders to assess conditions and perform inspections of existing facilities. The position requires the ability to work independently and allocate resources consistent with division goals. Prepare written and graphic presentations. Maintain proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, eBuilder and other systems used in professional management organizations. Promote and assure continuous improvement; establish and maintain productive relationships with a full range of personnel that reflect a strong commitment to customer service. Be an active leader and participant in the Capital Projects group to develop and implement best practices. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Provide the minimum level of qualifications required for an employee to succeed in this specific job. |Bachelor degree in architecture, engineering, construction management or a related field required. |Minimum of ten (10) years of progressively responsible experience with multi-discipline, multi-million-dollar construction projects including a minimum of three (3) years experience managing project staff. |A Bachelor degree in unrelated field with twenty (20) years of professional experience in the design and construction industry including direct experience managing multi-million dollar construction projects. |Demonstrated ability in establishing and maintaining productive relationships with a diverse group of internal and external constituents (including state & local agencies) that reflect a strong customer service commitment. |Demonstrated ability evaluating complex problems and implementing successful solutions through analytical thinking, planning and execution skills |Demonstrated experience in using Microsoft Office suite for scheduling, spreadsheet, word processing and database software systems. |Thorough knowledge of the design and construction practices, project budget development, scheduling, project tracking and controls. |Demonstrated leadership and communication skills in a high paced environment |Ability to access any portion of a construction/facility site. Preferred Qualifications: 1. Master's Degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management or Business. 2. Professional registration (Architecture or Engineer) or ability to obtain MA registration within one year of hire. 3.Experience in higher education facilities planning, design and construction including science and research facilities. 4.Advanced experience and knowledge of commercial construction estimating, means and methods, accounting, project administration, LEED certification.
