Developing and maintaining a community of engaged leadership volunteers is vital to the institution and the success of Development and Alumni Relations (DAR). In that vein, the Office of Development and Alumni Relations is seeking an enthusiastic, highly organized, detail-oriented Senior Development Coordinator to serve as a programmatic liaison for the boards and advisory groups for the School of Nursing. This position is critical in developing and maintaining a community of engaged leadership volunteers, who further the success of the institution and the Dean’s priorities. This position reports directly to the Associate Dean for Development and Alumni Relations, primarily focused on managing programs and projects related to the Nursing Advisory Board and newly formed Dean’s Working Groups. This colleague will support senior leadership at the School of Nursing, to manage the activities, communication flow, and timely follow up of these important groups to ensure a premier experience for volunteer leaders.

This position will work cross-collaboratively to ensure the engagement, stewardship, and recognition of volunteers across the institution to encourage and recognize their long-term support and the positive impact of their involvement and philanthropy. As an important colleague on the DAR team, this position will also provide administrative support for the Associate Dean for Development and Alumni Relations.

Specific Responsibilities:


Meeting and Project Management and Administration (50%)

  • Draft timely, accurate briefings for the Dean, Board Chair, Dean’s Working Group leads and/or other guest speakers in preparation for meetings
  • Liaise with the Events department to organize event logistics (budget, catering, set up, tech, etc.)
  • Coordinate and manage staff volunteers for the event
  • Manage communications and support preparation of materials to Nursing Advisory Board and Dean’s Working Groups, including distribution of pre-meeting material and post-meeting follow up as well as online portal content
  • Schedule, attend, take notes and synthesize note content into actionable themes for board and working group meetings
  • Oversee and track attendance for board and working group meetings
  • Manage key stakeholders to ensure timely meeting follow up for continuity of volunteer experience and progress
  • Prepare event folders and special gifts for guests
  • Create and implement a post-event guest survey to evaluate event outcomes

Operations: (25%)

  • Maintain updated contact lists for Nursing Advisory Board and Dean’s Working Groups
  • Track, maintain, and produce engagement scorecards and board data to measure the overall health/performance of the Nursing Advisory Board and the impact of volunteers (individually and as a whole) on their respective board(s), as well as the institution
  • Organize institutional guidelines, policies and procedures, resources, and expectations for all volunteers to follow as School of Nursing Advisory Board/Dean’s Working Group members
  • Partner with Assistant Director of Donor Relations to develop and maintain policies and procedures related to the engagement and stewardship of volunteer leaders and principal donors as appropriate
  • Manage updates to the Nursing Advisory Board Handbook and new member resources, including online board portal

Support to Associate Dean (25%)

  • Comprehensive support to the Associate Dean, including calendar management, travel arrangements, agenda preparation, briefings, room bookings, team meeting planning and activities, training courses, arranging for refreshments, etc.
  • Use SAP for accounting operations as necessary, including but not limited to cost-transfers, on-line check requests, travel reimbursements, and reconciliation of Travel Card and Procurement Card.
  • Coordinate and oversee purchase orders, including setting up contracts with consultants and other vendors.
  • Serve as backup to the development coordinator for donor line coverage and gift processing.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or graduation equivalent
  • Five years related administrative experience, with one year experience in a Development office preferred
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula


Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree with 3+ years of progressively responsible experience in development, communications, customer service, or a related field.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, detail-oriented writer.
  • Proactive, a self-starter, with the ability to make independent decisions and the discernment to know when such independence is warranted.
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills with ability to handle multiple priorities and to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Outlook), and previous experience working with databases.
  • This position requires a very high level of professionalism, discretion, diplomacy, and customer service.
