The School of Art & Art History invites applications for a tenure track position in Painting and Drawing at the Assistant Professor level beginning with the 2023-24 academic year. The successful candidate will teach undergraduates and graduates in B.A., B.F.A., M.A. and M.F.A programs. Salary will be commensurate with experience. 

The School of Art & Art History seeks an artist with a deep knowledge of painting and drawing media processes to teach undergraduate and graduate level courses. This individual will teach within the Painting and Drawing Program in the School of Art & Art History. The candidate must have an MFA or equivalent in Painting and Drawing, an extensive knowledge of painting and drawing media, painting art history, theory, and critical issues in contemporary painting and drawing practice. The candidate will demonstrate an innovative program of creative work using painting and drawing as a mode of creative expression. 

While the successful candidate should be comfortable working between the related areas of painting and drawing, the position is open to a wide range of technical and pedagogical approaches. Applicants must have two years of university level teaching experience beyond graduate assistantships.

Education Requirement: MFA in painting and drawing or equivalent by the start date. 

Required Qualifications: Two or more years of university-level teaching experience beyond the graduate assistant level; demonstration of a national exhibition record and a strong potential for research and exhibition of creative work; understanding of a variety of conceptual approaches in the teaching of painting and drawing; proficiency in critical theory; ability to teach all levels of painting and drawing.

Desirable Qualifications:   Interest/experience in contributing service to the development and success of the painting /drawing program; demonstrated effectiveness as a colleague; versed in outreach and engagement practice; knowledge of experimental painting and drawing history; success in competitive grant applications.
