Duties and Responsibilities:

Auburn University at Montgomery ( AUM ) invites applications and nominations for the position of Major Gifts Officer beginning no later than January 1, 2023.


The AUM Office of Advancement is committed to informing and engaging a diverse range of audiences including alumni, donors, and community members, through strategically aligned communications, engagement opportunities, and philanthropic initiatives. It strives to build meaningful relationships that steward the time, loyalty, and financial resources of individuals and organizations in support of AUM’s strategic mission to provide quality and diverse educational opportunities at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
Primary Responsibilities
  • Manage, plan, organize and implement fundraising activities for one or more organization units within Auburn University at Montgomery
  • Update and inform supervisors and other staff of goal status, new plans, and project proposals, and ensure that a cooperative team effort is made to meet goals/objectives
  • Identify potential prospects for cultivation through research, initial contact ratings, peer reviews, development officers and other resources, and conduct follow-up actions
  • Working under the guidance of the Associate Vice Chancellor of Advancement, travel extensively visiting donors
  • Solicit gifts through person-to-person visits, group presentations, and/or phone contacts
  • Provide stewardship to include acknowledgment and showing gratitude for giving either by letter, phone call, and/or participating in/attending events and functions for donor
  • Plan and implement donor engagement and donor stewardship activities
  • Develop campaigns and/or presentation proposals related to funding priorities to keep top prospects informed, interested and involved, and meet development goals/ objectives
  • Produce or assist in producing marketing materials to support development efforts
  • Secure appropriate level of private support in relationship to campaign and metric goals
  • Prepare and submit travel reimbursement vouchers for job-related travel and meetings
  • Develop reports, records, and programs and analyze information necessary to plan and complete projects and assignments
  • Maintain a portfolio of qualified major gift prospects
  • Take responsibility for annual metrics and fundraising goals (set by the Associate Vice Chancellor of Advancement)
  • Develop and implement cultivation and stewardship plans
  • Solicit major gift prospects and donors
  • Attend evening and weekend University events as needed

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Communications, Public Relations or related discipline
