For nearly a century Providence has been a Christian academic community in the evangelical tradition that teaches people to grow in knowledge and character for leadership and service. Our vision is to become a leading Canadian Christ-centred university that transforms students into leaders of knowledge, character, and faith to serve Christ in a changing world.

POSITION OVERVIEW

Providence University College invites applications for a full-time, tenure track Assistant/Associate Professor of History and/or Philosophy. The successful candidate will teach introductory surveys in history and philosophy. Other potential courses include history of Canada, history of Christianity, medieval history, critical thinking, and ethics, as well as courses in their own area of expertise.

A candidate with a strong background in theoretical perspectives is particularly welcome to apply. With regards to history, this could include a focus on postcolonialism and its ramifications for women and historically marginalized people. In addition to a candidate's own area of specialization, knowledge and familiarity with postmodern thought and its intersection with culture and faith is also important to the department.

  • Evidence of inclusion and diversity in their teaching practices and interests
  • A record or promise of scholarly achievement

  • Ability to work well with students, staff, and faculty in a collegial environment
  • An ability to integrate Christian faith and learning

  • Support the Providence mission, vision, and values
  • Affirm Providence’s Covenant of Faith
  • Able and willing to uphold the Covenant of Community Life and model conduct accordingly
