Position Summary Information
Job Description Summary
The successful candidate will teach graduate and undergraduate courses in the Secondary English Education Program. The candidate will be expected to create teaching and learning opportunities that:
1. Support development of content and pedagogical knowledge in English Education that aligns with instruction at the middle/high school level.
2. Foster the development of dispositions for teaching.
3. Facilitate the capacity to work with diverse communities, including with English language learners, by demonstrating a commitment to understanding and addressing issues of equity and diversity related to English and Language Arts Education.
Other responsibilities include supervision of field experiences; educational outreach; professional service; and collaboration with faculty to revise course content as necessary. All classes and field experiences are conducted face-to-face on the Auburn University campus and in local schools.
Minimum Qualifications
Applications must have or demonstrate:
• An earned doctorate degree in English/Language Arts Education (or an equivalent field) from an accredited institution at the time employment begins
• A minimum of three years of full-time classroom teaching experience in English/Language Arts at the middle and/or high school level
• Research experience in English/Language Arts education
• An ability to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in English/Language Arts with a commitment to equity and diversity
• An ability to collaborate with local school administrations, teachers, students, and community members.
Desired Qualifications
Desired qualifications include:
• Evidence of a professional commitment toward equity-based and justice-oriented teaching, scholarship, and outreach
• Experience obtaining external funding to support teaching and scholarship
• Experience teaching English/Language Arts teaching methods
• Experience supervising student teaching interns
• Active participation in the National Council of the Teachers of English
• Extensive classroom experience teaching English/Language Arts in diverse settings.
