Cazenovia College is seeking a full-time Database Administrator.  The position will be part of the Information Technology and Institutional Advancement teams, providing high level data analysis and maintenance to various departments on campus.  Approximately 50% of the position’s time will need to be allocated to Institutional Advancement. The DBA provides technical support for all Microsoft SQL Server databases on campus including architecture, installation, upgrades, SQL performance tuning, and other tasks.  They should have the ability to create queries, reports, and data extracts for campus processes and analytical purposes.

Primary responsibilities of this position include:

  • Install, configure, patch, monitor and manage enterprise databases (SQL Server).
  • Set up backups and perform recoveries for SQL Server databases. Install, upgrade, and apply patches to the Raiser’s Edge application and other third-party applications.
  • Work closely with the ERP Administrator to setup, configure and manage any reports, queries, and data imports/exports from the Colleague database.
  • Consult with departments across campus as requested on database questions.
  • Refresh test databases to facilitate user testing.
  • Work closely with Systems Engineer and other ICT staff to troubleshoot and help resolve problems.
  • Developing and executing reports on donors, donations, and other statistics and trends related to philanthropy at the College.
  • Assisting gift officers in tracking donor participation and job performance metrics.

Experience:

  • Must have an associates or bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field or 5+ years job experience.

Required Skills:

  • Problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Meticulous attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of database structure languages, such as SQL.
  • Familiarity with database queries.
  • Familiarity with database management best practices.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience in a higher education environment.
  • Experience with The Raiser’s Edge software application.
