The Harvard Graduate School of Education (HGSE) invites applications for full-time, tenure-track faculty position and/or practice faculty (open rank) focused on educational/school counseling or mental health counseling.

The areas of professional expertise of particular interest as they relate to counseling and mental health may include but are not limited to: issues of equity and systematic barriers in educational settings and the effect those have on student mental health; setting-level interventions to support student mental health, including multi-tiered systems of support; culturally-responsive counseling and programmatic interventions; trauma-sensitive schooling; group counseling; community-based practice; and systematic change. The successful candidate’s work will focus on making a positive impact on practice.

The successful candidate will be able to teach applied courses to graduate students in HGSE’s counseling licensure program along with courses in their area of interest in ways that have the potential to make a powerful contribution to the core curriculum. The ability to convey conceptual as well as practical knowledge beyond one’s own specific expertise is crucial.

High-quality teaching is highly valued at HGSE, and the school has made a strong commitment to cultivating and supporting strong teaching practices among faculty, primarily through the work of the school’s Teaching and Learning Lab. The successful candidate will have the potential to be a strong contributor to the development and delivery of residential and online professional development programs for practitioners, administrators, and leaders through HGSE’s Programs in Professional Education. The successful candidate will also be expected to contribute to HGSE initiatives focused on diversity, equity, and inclusion.

HGSE faculty at all ranks advise students and participate in institutional governance and service. Candidates will normally possess a doctorate or another terminal degree. Successful candidates will have teaching and leadership experience; for the rank of Professor (with tenure), candidates must have an excellent record of rigorous scholarship and a robust program of research. For the rank of Assistant/Associate Professor, candidates should have emerging programs of research. Practice faculty (Lecturer/Senior Lecturer/Professor of Practice) will have significant experience in school or other practice settings.

To ensure full consideration, please apply by October 14, 2022. Please submit a CV; professional statement (for practice track) or research statement (for tenure track); statement of teaching philosophy that addresses diversity, equity, and inclusion; and three or more publications (for tenure track) and/or examples of work (for practice track) online at http://apply.interfolio.com/113804. Candidates invited to interview will be asked about references and to submit additional documents.

If you have any questions, please contact the Office of Faculty Affairs at academic@gse.harvard.edu.
