Department Summary
The Ballmer Institute for Children's Behavioral Health is a new Portland-based institute that will provide a bold new approach to addressing the behavioral and mental health care needs of Oregon's children. The Ballmer Institute was made possible by a lead gift of more than $425 million from Connie and Steve Ballmer, co-founders of Ballmer Group Philanthropy.

The Ballmer Institute for Children's Behavioral Health at the University of Oregon will be the first of its kind, establishing a new model for behavioral and mental health care, and the most comprehensive effort undertaken by a U.S. university and its partners, creating a new model of care.

The Ballmer Institute, the UO will:
  • Develop a new level of behavioral health practitioners through new undergraduate degree and certificate programs. The new degree program is subject to state approval.
  • Deliver science-based early detection, prevention, and treatment strategies directly into the lives of children and their families.
  • Accelerate the discovery and dissemination of new technologies and research informed by clinical context.
  • Provide scholarships through a $100 million endowment to graduate a new, diverse and culturally rich workforce prepared to work directly with those in need.
    Position Summary
    The Academic Program Coordinator (APC) will provide support to programs in The Ballmer Institute for Children's Behavioral Health. This position manages student academic processes and records, including the admissions process and departmental course scheduling. This position develops and maintains procedures and systems to ensure efficient workflow and service delivery related to student, faculty, and curriculum support. The APC is responsible for coordinating services, operational support, and communication to students and faculty, including tracking, scheduling, and ensuring compliance with policy.

    The APC regularly interprets and communicates program, operational, and institutional policies, procedures, and rules. The APC responds to routine and non-routine questions. The program faculty consult with and rely on this position's expertise, knowledge, judgment, and recommendations regarding program operations and areas for improvement. Information that the APC disseminates to students and faculty could impact admissions, degree completion or accreditation.

    The Academic Program Coordinator position reports to the Associate Director, Ballmer Institute, and is located at UO Portland.

    Although the Ballmer Institute will ultimately be located in North East Portland, current operations will be housed at the existing UO Portland building in Old Town
    Minimum Requirements
  • Two years of experience as an administrative specialist or executive support specialist which included administrative support for a project, program, or operation. Administrative support includes those duties beyond clerical/secretarial such as interpretation of laws, rules, and regulations; administrative data collection and analysis; and evaluation of projects, processes, and operations

  • An equivalent combination of training and experience

    Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Experience with the application of policies and procedures, preferably in a higher education context.
  • Experience using Courseleaf, GradWeb/Slate, Banner or similar enterprise systems.
