About the Opportunity

Summary:

The Counseling and Psychological Services Crisis Focused

Counselor provides a variety of mental health services

with an emphasis on providing short-term and crisis

therapeutic interventions for Mills College at

Northeastern students. These services will include

psychological evaluation, crisis intervention,

brief psychotherapy intervention, and short term

psychotherapy. The Crisis Focused Counselor will be a lead

in making improvements to our crisis management

processes and protocols. The Crisis Focused Counselor will

be responsible for making appropriate referrals for

psychopharmacological evaluation and external ongoing

counseling, and for referral to emergency mental health

services, when appropriate. The Crisis Focused Counselor

will also provide follow-up support to students with acute

needs and may have the opportunity to facilitate a

support group.

In addition, this position will be engaged in supporting our

clinical training program in helping to prepare the next

generation of therapists to provide individualized

treatment through a social justice lens. This may include

providing direct supervision to trainees and teaching

didactics. The position may also involve outreach activities

to the Mills College at Northeastern University community

and collaboration with various support services within the

University. Time spent amongst the various clinical service

activities may shift in proportion to changes in service

demands at any given time of the year. The clinician will

often work closely with and make referrals to other

Division of Student Life staff, and will collaborate with our

Student Health Center as appropriate, all in the interest of

providing the best possible team-oriented health care to

Mills College at Northeastern students.

Qualifications:

We are seeking a clinician who is committed to social

justice and passionate about providing services to a

diverse, primarily young adult population. Ph.D. or Psy.D.

in Clinical Psychology, LCSW, LMFT, or LPCC and active

California license to provide psychotherapy in California at

time of application is strongly preferred. Applicants should

be currently licensed in California and able to practice

independently. However, license eligible clinicians will be

considered if the candidate will be licensed in fall of 2022

and can provide a clear timeline of their anticipated date

of licensure. That timeline should be provided in the cover

letter.

Strongly preferred 2+ years experience and competency in

urgent and crisis assessment and treatment, short-term

psychotherapy, treatment of alcohol/drug abuse, working

with adolescents and college-aged clientele,

demonstrated success in working effectively in an

interdisciplinary team setting, and supervisory experience.

Must have a commitment to and work exceptionally well

with students identifying as BIPOC, in particular Black and

Latinx identified students, LGBTQIA+, transgender and

non-binary students, international students, students of

all abilities and other under-represented communities on

campus. Must have a sophisticated understanding of how

intersectionality, privilege, and socioeconomic status

relate to the mental health of a global student community

and a personal commitment to anti-racism work.

color, first generation college graduates, and clinicians

who identify as part of the LGBTQIA+ community including

genderqueer/gender non- conforming clinicians strongly
