    Department Summary
    The Early Childhood CARES program is a department in the College of Education, Center on Human Development, and is the operational entity for the University of Oregon Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities. Early Childhood CARES stands for Early Childhood Coordination Agency for Referrals, Evaluation, and Services for Lane County. Early Childhood CARES provides Early Intervention (EI) and Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE) services to infants, toddlers, and preschool children in Lane County with developmental delays and disabilities. Early Childhood CARES is funded by the Oregon Department of Education and is one of nine programs in Oregon delivering EI/ECSE services across the state.
    Position Summary
    The purpose of this position is to provide on-site responsibility for the daily routines in a preschool classroom. Positions are primarily found in a facility than includes children having cognitive, social, self-help, communication, and/or physical disabilities and they require the willingness to work in the environment associated with the position's location and purpose. The Associate Teacher will work with children to promote growth and learning and will play an important role in integrating children into classroom activities, including preparing and developing activities and materials to help children meet their individual IFSP goals and objectives. The Associate Teacher will interact with children and parents and communicate with program staff, consultants, and related service providers. The Associate Teacher will oversee teaching assistants and maintain the safety and continuity of the preschool program.
    Minimum Requirements
  • Associate degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or Special Education from a recognized program;
    OR
  • Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential;
    OR
  • A minimum of 20 semester hours (30 quarter hours) of college courses in Early Childhood Education or Child Development; and one year of full-time experience in a certified daycare center, comparable group child care program, or with children with special needs;
    OR
  • At least 2 two years of full-time experience (at least one year as a teacher) in a certified daycare center, comparable group child care program, or with children with special needs.

    Special Requirement:
    Candidate must have achieved or be eligible to achieve step 7 in the Oregon Registry.
    Professional Competencies
  • Ability to work collaboratively with community preschool teaching partners.
  • Ability to work harmoniously with toddler and preschool-aged children with a variety of developmental delays and disabilities.
  • Ability to explain and present ideas, orally and in writing, to others in a clear manner.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
  • Ability to learn to operate instructional equipment.
  • Ability to perform basic record-keeping tasks.
    Preferred Qualifications
  • Basic knowledge of specialized education or early childhood development.
