College Advisers
Job Summary:
College Advising Corps at Furman University is seeking full-time College Advisers to serve in South Carolina high schools. Part of the National College Advising Corps network, our College Advisers work with students and their families to help students figure out “life after high school.” Our mission is to increase the number of low-income, first-generation college, and underrepresented high school students who enter and complete higher education.
Job Description:
In this challenging role, Advisers are assigned to work full-time in a high school as an embedded member of the school's counseling department. While the day-to-day work varies based upon the needs of each school, College Advisers focus on providing one-on-one advising to students, engaging with parents and other family members, and assisting students/families with college and financial aid applications. Advisers also plan and manage events which help to build a college-going culture in their school.
College Advisers are AmeriCorps members who initially sign up for an 11-month term of service (July 19, 2022 - May 31, 2023), which is renewable for a second year. College Advisers receive a living stipend (salary), health insurance and other benefits, and upon completion of their term of service they also receive a Segal AmeriCorps Education Award. For the 2022-23 school year, we are seeking College Advisers to work in our partner high schools in Chester, Lancaster, and Clarendon Counties. Advisers must currently live or be willing to relocate to the county in which they will serve.
To be eligible to apply, individuals must be about to graduate with a bachelor's degree in Spring 2022, or have graduated within the past two years. College Advisers come from diverse backgrounds, majors, and career interests, but all share a passion for supporting underserved students. When applying for this position, please attach a cover letter and a resume with three professional references. In your cover letter, please indicate in which county (or counties) you would be willing to serve (Chester, Clarendon, and/or Lancaster).
