Assistant Professor in Chinese Language and Culture

School of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences

The School of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences (SHASS), at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in Cambridge, Massachusetts invites applications for a full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor specializing in Chinese Language and Culture, beginning July 1, 2023, or on a mutually agreed date thereafter. The appointment would be in one of the following academic units: Anthropology, Comparative Media Studies/Writing, History, Linguistics, Literature, Music and Theater Arts, and Science, Technology, and Society. We will consider only candidates with a PhD in a field related to Chinese Language and Culture by the start of employment.


The responsibilities of the position will include: conducting significant scholarship likely to have a major impact on its field, teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in topics related to Chinese Language and Culture for those academic units with a graduate program, advising undergraduate and graduate students for those academic units with a graduate program, and committee memberships and other forms of service to the academic unit, the university, and the discipline.
