The International Education Specialist:
  • Provides advising, administrative, and logistical support to students, faculty, and staff for study abroad programs.
  • Designs and implements a comprehensive study abroad program for AUM, to include individual student programs; faculty-led, Exchange Student and prestigious scholarships.
  • Establishes and maintains professional networks with related local, state, national, and international organizations and agencies.
  • Provides study Abroad orientation meetings and materials to participants prior to departure for the program, which includes appropriate information on health, legal, environmental, political, cultural, and religious conditions in the host country.
  • Trains, develops and advises student leadership groups.
  • Provides well researched and documented programming for international students to assist in the integration and campus experience.
  • Manages annual budget; develops proposals and other initiatives for Study Abroad Programs.
  • Prepares an annual evaluation report for each Study Abroad Program.
  • Assists with the processing of admission documents for international students.
  • Serves as Designated School Official/ Alternate Responsible Officer and provide required services to international students.
  • Advises international students and faculty on visa related issues.
  • Updates Study Abroad handbook to incorporate current policies.
  • Assists in completing office projects, i.e., maintaining OGI websites and social media platforms, representing OGI at University events, Orientation, etc.
  • Archives all documents after the study abroad trip is over.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of international education
  • Knowledge of Student Banner or similar software
  • Knowledge of acceptable basic management practices
  • Knowledge of and familiarity with best industry practices and emerging trends for international education and an ability to implement them
  • Written communication skills
  • Problem analysis skills
  • Ability to develop and maintain budgets
  • Ability to interact with others
  • Ability to speak in public, lead small group meetings, and make presentations, particularly to intercultural groups
  • Ability to work on multiple projects at one time and respond to multiple competing demands
  • Ability to use a computer and relevant software applications
  • Ability to manage project activities and the work of others
Minimum Qualifications:
A Bachelor’s Degree in a related area and four (4) years of related work experience. Education can be substituted for experience.
Must meet Homeland Security requirements to serve as Designated School Official/Alternate Responsible Officer
