Announcement of Position Vacancy
The Department of Social Work at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee seeks to fill a full-time, tenured faculty position of tenured Associate/Full Professor and Chair to begin August 21, 2023. The Chair is the Department's chief academic and strategic officer who is responsible for overseeing shared governance processes, facilitating department meetings and communication, managing course schedules to meet program and student needs, and engaging in leadership activities that enhance the quality and reputation of the department. The Chair also helps to maintain the Department's compliance with CSWE accreditation standards. The preferred rank at the time of appointment is Professor, though Associate Professors with leadership and administrative experience are also encouraged to apply. The Department is housed within the Helen Bader School of Social Welfare, which also includes the Department of Criminal Justice & Criminology. Accredited by the CSWE, the Department of Social Work offers a BSW and MSW along with a PhD in Social Welfare jointly with the Department of Criminal Justice & Criminology. The Department of Social Work has an excellent reputation for building partnerships with community and state agencies to address urgent social problems and promote the health and welfare of diverse, underserved, and marginalized populations. The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Wisconsin's major public urban research university, offers a comprehensive liberal arts and professional education at the undergraduate and graduate levels and is one of the two doctoral-granting campuses in the University of Wisconsin System. UWM was designated an R-1 Doctoral University - Highest Research Activity, by the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education. The Chair appointment carries administrative, teaching, and service duties. The qualified applicant must hold a PhD in social work or a related field and meet requirements for a tenured faculty position within the Department of Social Work. Preference will be given to applicants who have demonstrated a strong record of (1) leadership and administrative experience, (2) research and scholarship, (3) teaching across levels of the curriculum, and (4) collaboration across disciplines and with community partners.
