Position Summary:  The Department of Art at New Mexico State University is seeking a full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor in Sculpture. Responsibilities include teaching a 3/3 annual course load within the context of an interdisciplinary studio program; building and maintaining a strong and active exhibition record; management and oversight of all aspects of the sculpture and digital fabrication studio; advising undergraduate and graduate students; service to the department, college, university and profession, and outreach.

The Department of Art is housed in the new state-of-the-art Devasthali Hall and offers BA degrees in Studio Art and Art History, BFA degrees in studio art and museum conservation, an MA degree in Art History and an MFA in Studio Art. NMSU also offers a Graduate Certificate in Museum Studies.

 

Required Qualifications:   An M.F.A. in Studio Art with emphasis in sculpture or related field. A congruent national/international research record including creative work from the last three years; a minimum of two years university-level teaching experience beyond graduate school; expertise in a range of traditional and contemporary methods, digital and foundational fabrication techniques and critical issues related to art and three–dimensional media; an ability to work with graduate students in a cross-media studio arts program; aptitude for providing instruction on professional practices in the field of art; a knowledge of current safety and health standards in the field of sculpture; a capacity for overseeing and managing a multi-room facility; and a willingness to work with a diverse faculty and student population. Expectation to teach specific classes in both digital fabrication and traditional sculpting techniques.

 

Preferred Qualifications:    Technical ability in 3D digital production and familiarity with contemporary art history and theory.
