  POSITION TITLE:              Financial Aid Specialist




DEPARTMENT:                  Office of Financial Aid

Responsibilities:  The Financial Aid Specialist is responsible for awarding financial aid to eligible students. In carrying out these duties the Financial Aid Specialist will:  Assess an individual student’s financial need and ascertains the student’s eligibility to participate in federal, state and /or institutional aid programs.  Analyzes background information submitted by students on various financial aid applications and ensures data is consistent on all documents.  Communicates with students and parents on the manner to integrate their financial concerns, relative to personal and/or academic problems. Conducts financial aid workshops/conferences and completes all internal and external reports.  Evaluates the academic status of each applicant relative to his or her eligibility for assistance under the federal aid programs; Keeps abreast of regulations and guidelines pertaining to the student Financial Aid Program. Other duties as assigned.



Qualifications:  A Bachelor’s degree is required.  A minimum of one (1) year experience in financial aid operation is required.  In addition, one year of specialized experience. Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties as described above. Applicant must also possess working knowledge of Financial Aid Programs, such as Pell, SEOG, College Work-study., Federal Direct Students Loans and State Aid; experience in an automated office. Thorough knowledge of federal and state financial aid regulations, policies and procedures. Knowledge of mainframe and personal computer is required. Experience with financial aid systems is required. Preference will be given for candidates with PeopleSoft knowledge.


Conditions of Employment:   May require evening and weekend work. This is a Union Position.  Please be advised, COVID-19 vaccinations are encouraged but not required for faculty and staff to be employed at Bowie State University.  This protocol is subject to change.



SALARY:  $45,000 - $50,000
