Responsible to the Assistant Vice President for Communications for developing and implementing a multi-dimensional, thought leadership communications strategy. This role will develop thought leadership content such as op-eds, essays, presentations, social media content, video/audio products for university leaders and faculty. Thought leadership communications will encompass local, state and national audiences. This role may partner with and support the Vice President for Strategic Communications and Marketing (SCM) and other university leaders in creating internal and external communications and thought leadership-oriented presentations.

Responsibilities:

Develops and implements a thought leadership communications strategy while working in tandem with other members of the national communications strategy team and marketing and communications leaders. Works with university faculty and leaders to author or co-author op-eds, white papers, essays, blogs and other narratives.

Creates relationships with state and national media outlets to develop opportunities for the university to provide academic, research and administrative expertise. Monitors news events and topic of special interest for timely and relevant thought leadership opportunities, develops and cultivates relationships with state and national editorial writers/broadcast producers/higher ed outlet editors.

Contributes written stories for internal communication platforms and accepts other assignments, such as development of website, presentation and other copy and contributes to special projects, as assigned.

May also assist with preparation of internal and external communications, such as newsletters, presentations and emails, for university leadership including the Vice President for Strategic Communications and Marketing.

NOTE: This position is located on our Gainesville campus with opportunity for hybrid remote/in-office work after 60 - 90 days.

Expected Salary:

$80,000 - $90,000

Minimum Requirements:

Master's degree and six years of relevant experience or a bachelor's degree in appropriate area and eight years of relevant experience

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Must possess high-level writing skills that demonstrate the ability to communicate complex ideas, research and knowledge in an understandable and impactful way.
  • Experience working in a highly dynamic and deadline-oriented environment preferred.
  • Must be able to work well with the media as well as a broad range of internal and external stakeholders, including university leadership, faculty and other communicators.
  • Should have highly developed communication skills, with special expertise in the art of persuasive writing and storytelling.
  • Should have a well-developed understanding of issues facing higher education at the state and national levels.
  • Should have extensive knowledge of the operations and activities of the University of Florida and be able to recognize events, trending topics and information that provide opportunities for thought leadership.
  • Should be able to work on a variety of projects at one time and respond well to pressure situations.
