Job Summary:
Performs cashier duties for the Commons Cafeteria. Operates cash register with positive customer service skills, maintains cleanliness of seating and
scramble area to include self-serve and condiments.
Required Qualifications:
Education and Experience: Must maintain enrollment in at least 6 credits at LBCC, maintain satisfactory academic progress throughout each term and maintain a cumulative grade point average of 2.0 or better (some positions may require a higher GPA ) to be eligible to work in a Learn & Earn student employee capacity at Linn-Benton Community College
Requires previous experience in food service. Must have a current Food Handler’s card or must obtain within 30 days of employment.
Knowledge and Skills: High school level reading, writing and arithmetic skills. Knowledge of the
operation of computerized point of sales cash registers, knowledge and understanding of safety and sanitary practices and procedures related to the position, and strong customer relations skills.
Abilities: Ability to independently carry out the duties of the position, ability to sufficiently read and
understand instructions and safety materials. Must understand labels on detergents and chemicals
used in cleaning. Ability to handle food and related equipment in a manner which meets county health and safety standards. Must be able to calculate coffee drink amounts and perform cashiering duties, including taking money and making correct change. Ability to receive and carry out written and oral instructions. Ability to work as a member of a team and promote harmonious working relationships. Must be able to interact with customers in a manner which reflects positively on the department. Must be able to work respectfully with individuals of all cultures, backgrounds, perspectives, and abilities.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
Position involves extended periods of standing and lifting light to medium weight objects (10 – 40 pounds). Involves stooping, crouching, and guiding materials into proper position. Requires good arm, hand and finger dexterity, hand-eye coordination and depth perception to operate the coffee making equipment and the cash register.
Involves working around hot equipment. Position is fast paced, multi-tasked and requires strong public contact. Work is performed in a snack bar environment near various student activities and at times becomes noisy.
Essential Duties:
- Prepares for opening by making coffee and stocking.
- Operates point of sale cash register including handling money and making correct change.
- Performs Barista duties including making espresso, coffee drinks, etc.
- Keeps areas of responsibility clean and sanitized.
- Assists in keeping front stocked as necessary and notifies culinary staff of items needing to be ordered.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
