Job Description:

The Shipping & Receiving Clerk performs efficiently and collaboratively in assisting the Shipping/Receiving Manager by handling incoming and outgoing shipments. This position requires detailed and thoroughness, when receiving products or when packing books or merchandise for shipment. This could include creating shipping documents, print shipping labels and schedule pickups. It is required to provide a high standard of customer service when working with customers and vendors by phone, email, or in person. This position will actively compare purchase orders, manifests and invoices to verify accuracy. They will also confer and correspond with the Shipping and Receiving Manager to rectify problems, such as damages, shortages and nonconformance to specifications. Major focus will also be working in the inventory management system or ERP to compare pricing, cost and retail through communication with the buyer. The Shipping & Receiving Clerk is expected to prepare and pack returns for textbooks and trad orders and handle any issuing arising in shipping or inventory handling. They will be responsible for assisting with transporting daily outgoing and intermittent freight shipments to the loading dock and utilize manual hand trucks to transport shipments to the sales floor. During peak times they will assist with packing and preparing mail order and web order shipments to customers. They should be flexible and be able to assist with transporting merchandise to storage areas on and off-site by packaging, organizing by brand or category and lifting items as necessary by hand truck for large goods. This position will be responsible for staging and palletizing product in stockrooms and warehouses and perform light quality control to ensure products are going to the correct areas. The Shipping & Receiving Clerk will assist in generating shipping logs, create daily Freight, FedEx and USPS shipments and campus deliveries. Performs other duties as assigned by the Shipping & Receiving Manager.

Assist Incoming and Outgoing Shipments
  • Compare purchase orders, manifests and invoices to verify accuracy.
  • Confer and correspond with the Shipping/Receiving Manager to rectify problems, such as damages, shortages and nonconformance to specifications.
  • Work in the inventory management system or ERP to compare pricing; cost and retail though communication with the buyer.
  • Prepare and pack returns for textbook and trade orders.
  • Handle issues arising in shipping or inventory handling.
  • Assist with transport of daily outgoing and intermittent freight shipments to the loading dock.
  • Utilize manual hand trucks to transport shipments to the sales floor
  • Assist in sorting trade, text, Campus Shop and technology cartons for dispersal to appropriate receiving areas.
  • Pack and prepare Mail Order and Web Order shipments to customers.
Assist in Maintaining Merchandise in Stockrooms and Warehousing
  • Place merchandise in storage facility or warehouse by packaging, organizing by brand or category and lifting items as necessary by hand truck for large goods.
  • Assist in maintain stockrooms.
  • Stage and palletize product in stockrooms and warehouse.
  • Perform light quality control to ensure products are going to correct areas.
Create Daily Freight, FedEx and USPS Shipments and Campus Deliveries
  • Generate shipping logs and scannable forms for USPS shipments
  • Transport on campus departmental orders.
  • Work with web order department to retrieve daily web orders for shipment.
  • Work with the freight vendors to make sure web orders, and mail orders are sent out daily.
Support Bookstore Operations
  • Provide as much service as possible and keep merchandise neat and orderly.
  • Ensure adherence to policies and procedures
  • Other tasks as assigned by the management team
Job Qualifications:

Education and Experience
  • High school or equivalent.
  • Valid driver’s license and successful completion of safe driving class and exam to become certified to drive the Bookstore van.
  • Successful completion of training and exam to become certified to operate motorized pallet jack.
  • Must be well-organized and accurate.
  • Demonstrate an ability to support a community of diverse perspectives and cultures in an inclusive environment.
