JOB DESCRIPTION:

Under minimal direction from the Manager of Database Administrative System & Services, the Web Systems Specialist will provide technical leadership and programming support for the design, development, and maintenance of 3rd Party and custom developed applications. This includes support for IT maintained FIT mission-critical websites, mobile applications, APls, and interfaces.

Essential Functions:
FIT uses a variety of technologies to develop and support our services. The ideal candidate will have in-depth experience writing and supporting applications in the following environments and technologies: Java, Java Server Pages, Java Servlets, Git, Markdown (for documentation), HTML, SQL, MVC, XML, Eclipse, lntelliJ, SQL Server PL/SQL and Oracle. Additionally, Grails 2+ and H2 database experience is highly desired. The technologies listed change over time in order to keep pace with College needs; candidate must maintain technical competence and remain current in all aspects of technologies related to this position.

  • Adapt promptly to new technologies.
  • Work with minimal supervision to develop applications within required technology frameworks and project timeframes.
  • Perform tasks with attention to detail and provide high quality deliverables.
  • Develop appropriate technical and code documentation associated with application life cycle and ongoing support.
  • Develop effective technical implementation plans at a task level and perform task execution in an appropriate and timely manner. Collaborate with peers by providing technical guidance on projects and tasks as needed; this may include the need to mentor team members.
  • Perform daily tasks associated with support needs (e.g., populating data systems with user data and satisfying helpdesk tickets).
  • Develop understanding of supported business systems in order to provide effective technical direction and support.
  • Maintain focus on long-term goals while producing immediate and near-term solutions.
  • Effectively communicate and collaborate with College end-users, IT co-workers and technology vendors and consultants. This may include developing appropriate documentation and sharing knowledge in a one-on-one or group setting.

Perform Portal Administration, Configuration and Support

  • Develop and support APls using Groovy, native JAVA and future technologies.
  • Develop file interface and ETLs.
  • Configure and administer Single Sign On (880) & Authentication tools and technologies (e.g. WS02, CAS, SAML).

Administration and Coordination 3rd Party Application

  • Perform system administration and configuration.
  • Setup and configure scheduling tools & file transfer tools.
  • The position is expected to lead or assist with emergency support situations as directed by the Manager.

REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, information systems or related field required. 
  • Minimum of three (3) years of relevant work experience.
  • Expert-level web and mobile development skills along with extensive system development life cycle experience. 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to function within the following operating environments: UNIX/Linux (RedHat), modern Windows, Internet Information Services, Tomcat, Apache, Active Directory, LDAP. Legacy knowledge of these technologies are desired - VB, ASP (Active Server Pages), .NET.
  • Proven experience working with business stakeholders in a technical leadership role through all aspects of software development lifecycle, upgrades, and bug/fixes for complex business systems.
  • Experience writing and supporting APls, system interfaces and ETLs.
  • Experience administering one or more Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems, preferably related to a higher education such as Luminis Portal (Liferay), Banner, PeopleSoft, Jenzabar, Colleague, PowerCampus or similar.
  • Must have effective oral and written communication skills along with excellent judgment, problem solving, critical thinking and analytical skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects under tight project deadlines. 
  • Strong SQL knowledge and programming capabilities.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in information science, management information systems or related field preferred.  
  • Familiarity with graphic applications such as Adobe Photoshop techniques and other Web utilities are an added-plus.
  • Knowledge of authentication protocols such as CAS, SAML, and Shibboleth.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

Days/Hours: M-F, 9am-5pm, in person; days, evenings and weekends; work schedule subject to change based on needs of the department. 

Hiring Salary: $85,860 per year
