Job Description:

Summary: Performs accounting tasks involving the maintenance of financial records and processing of accounting data.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Audits purchase requisitions and ad hoc payments for accuracy and completeness; prepares ad hoc payments as needed; reconciles discrepancies and maintains appropriate budget controls.

Maintains appropriate, accurate records of financial and related information for the College funds.

Compiles various financial reports.

Posts journal entries and maintains a variety of related records.

Reconciles accounts and makes adjusting entries in ledgers according to standard accounting procedures and guidelines.

Audits purchasing card spend authorizations and expense reports for accuracy and completeness as assigned. Reconciles receipts to the purchasing card reconciliation reports; reviews the receipts for appropriateness, matches the receipts to the charges, and resolves any discrepancies. Monitors unreconciled credit card transactions.

Participates in the compilation of data and the preparation of fiscal year-end financial statements. Prepares and maintains year-end data schedules.

Attends and participates in departmental, campus, and professional meetings. Serves as interface with department personnel to obtain information to verify or support financial records and to answer inquiries concerning accounting procedures.

Supervises and coordinates the activities of supportive staff as assigned.

Responsible for knowing and conforming to all safety practices and regulations that apply to this specific area and position. Unsafe conditions should be reported to the immediate supervisor and to the Pensacola State College Police Department/Public Safety.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Essential Functions:

Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Must have sound mathematical and computational skills.

Must be able to interpret procedures and policies as it relates to grant funds and accounting principles.

Must be able to make thorough decisions based on accounting/bookkeeping knowledge.

Operates office equipment: including, but not limited to, computer, copier machine, printers, and calculators.

Minimum Qualifications: Graduation from an accredited institution with an Associate degree in a related field. Graduation from high school or GED equivalency and four years full-time bookkeeping or accounting experience may substitute for the required education. Successful results of a criminal background check are required.

Pursuant to College policy, it is an employment eligibility requirement for an applicant to meet the requirements of § 435.04(2), Florida Statutes, related to background investigations. Any person failing to meet the requirements of the statute will be deemed not qualified to hold employment in this position. A Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) approved background check will be conducted on every successful candidate as a condition of employment, and any person who fails to disclose any adverse information contained in the background investigation at the time of submitting the employment application will be disqualified from employment.

SALARY RANGE: $29,400.00 ($15.08/hour)

Depending upon qualifications and experience, the salary is negotiable.
