The Department of Linguistics at Georgetown University invites applications for a full-time tenure-line Provost’s Distinguished Faculty Fellow and Assistant Professor of Linguistics whose research focuses on any aspect of African American Language, from any research perspective within linguistics. Our department has concentrations in applied linguistics, computational linguistics, sociolinguistics, and theoretical/formal linguistics. We welcome applicants with expertise in any of these areas, or others (e.g. linguistic anthropology, psycholinguistics, educational linguistics, language policy). We especially encourage applications from scholars who are members of groups historically underrepresented in academia.

For the first year, the successful candidate will hold the title of Provost’s Distinguished Faculty Fellow. The Provost’s Distinguished Faculty Fellow Program at Georgetown attracts new faculty from a wide range of backgrounds who demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Provost’s Distinguished Fellows are on the tenure track, and will be exempt from teaching and service duties in the first year of their appointments, when they will devote their full-time effort to building their research programs. The regular teaching load for this position is 2-2. Fellows will be paired with two senior faculty mentors.

Qualifications:

A Ph.D. in Linguistics or an adjacent field is required prior to appointment start date (August 1, 2023). Candidates must show strong promise of excellence in teaching as well as research. They should also demonstrate in their application a commitment to academic excellence and diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI). This commitment to DEI can be demonstrated in a number of ways, including through teaching and research on matters related to DEI or through service that fosters DEI in a university community.
