Assistant/Associate Director of Strategic Communications and Marketing to develop and implement a strategic marketing and communications plan for the Scripps Gerontology Center. This individual reports to the Executive Director of the Scripps Gerontology Center and is responsible for leading the branding, communications management, and overall message content for the Center. Scripps maintains communication with a variety of audiences, including but not limited to: academic researchers; prospective students and Gerontology program alumni; legislators and policy-makers; older adults and their families; and the general public. We deliver our message via paper and online research reports and journal articles, webinars, social media, periodic electronic newsletters, and annual reports. Three associated webpages also showcase our work —Scrippsaging.org, ScrippsOMA.org, and ohio-population.org. Strategically executing a plan for disseminating and promoting Scripps work with excellence, accuracy, timeliness, and broad visibility is a key priority along with raising the national and international profile of Scripps. This position may be approved for remote work on a hybrid basis. Remote work is a working arrangement that can be modified or revoked by Miami University at any time for any reason.

The Assistant/Associate Director of Strategic Communications and Marketing will:

•           Lead the strategic planning for all Scripps communications, benchmarking, and tracking metrics for the organization

•           Develop and execute content across all Scripps communication platforms and is responsible for implementing new and innovative communications and marketing strategies;

•           Developing and implementing a plan for regular review and updating of written products such as informational brochures and flyers;

•           Developing and implementing a plan for regular review and updating of multiple websites for optimal dissemination;

•           Lead the creation (including writing, editing, and designing) of materials such as newsletters, press releases, brochures, infographics or other materials as needed;

•           Write and edit press releases and other news stories and working with external media partners to distribute news and announcements;

•           Serving as liaison with University Communications regarding news and press releases, experts for News Bureau requests, implementation of Miami guidelines for communications materials, and other activities.

•           Develop and direct communication strategies to engage alumni and donors to support the mission of SGC and Miami University

•           Supervise professional and student staff (both graduate and undergraduate)

•           Develops techniques to explain research findings using different presentation formats (e.g., graphical, numeric, non-numeric)

•           Use narratives (communication delivered in the form of a story, testimonial, or entertainment education) to disseminate.

Required:

For appointment as Assistant Director: Bachelor’s degree in communication studies, public relations, marketing, journalism, or related field. 

For appointment as Associate Director: Bachelor’s degree in communication studies, public relations, marketing, journalism, or related field and three or more years of experience in communications planning, research dissemination, or related field. 

Position is not eligible for H-1B sponsorship.

Consideration may be given to candidates with knowledge of gerontology and programs and services for older adults.
