The University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus invites applications and nominations for the position of Dean of the Colorado School of Public Health (ColoradoSPH). The dean of the Colorado School of Public Health is responsible for leading the teaching, research, public health practice, and service mission of the ColoradoSPH. The dean works collaboratively in a shared governance framework with the faculty and staff to develop, implement, and evaluate comprehensive strategic plans for all efforts of the school. This role will work to identify, facilitate, and promote multidisciplinary, inter- and intra-college/school, and international education, service, research, scholarly, and creative activities.

The Colorado School of Public Health (ColoradoSPH) is a Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH) accredited collaborative school comprised of three partners: The University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus (as the lead institution), Colorado State University, and the University of Northern Colorado. ColoradoSPH enrolls more than 700 graduate students in 45 public health academic and professional programs. The ColoradoSPH includes a wide array of centers and programs anchored in an academic community with a commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion, that provide a foundation of excellence for education, interdisciplinary research and public health practice, as described in greater detail in the Leadership Profile (https://coloradosph.cuanschutz.edu/dean-search).  The School’s mission is “to promote the physical, mental, social and environmental health of people and communities in the Rocky Mountain Region and globally.”  The School is engaged in social, economic, health and environmental issues that impact Colorado’s various populations including local underserved communities.  Significant areas of activity, strength and current and potential impact are described at https://coloradosph.cuanschutz.edu/.

The dean of the ColoradoSPH is a key member of the campus’ leadership team, serving as a strategist, advocate, leader of integrity, and effective spokesperson for academic and constituent concerns, as well as other matters related to the well-being of the school, consistent with the school’s vision and mission. The dean provides vision and guidance in all aspects of the school’s educational programs, research endeavors, outside funding efforts, and community outreach and service programs. This role needs to recruit and retain a diverse pool of excellent faculty, staff, and students, enhance funded research, inspire philanthropy, and continuously improve the teaching and learning environment for students. The new dean will also be expected to encourage effective collaborative relationships within the school, with the partner institutions, and among schools and college within the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus, where the administrative home of the school resides. The dean is expected to liaise effectively with Colorado public health agencies and external advisory groups in promoting all aspects of the school.

This position requires a doctoral or equivalent terminal degree (MD, PhD, DrPH, or similar) in a public health or related field from an accredited institution, academic qualifications compatible with an appointment to the rank of full professor with tenure, demonstrated experience in administration and leadership at an academic institution (e.g., at the level of chair, associate dean, or dean), government agency, or other organization devoted to the promotion of health, demonstrated commitment to building a diverse, equitable, and inclusive community, and demonstrated leadership in teaching, research/scholarship, and service.

Salary and benefits are competitive and commensurate with experience. The Colorado School of Public Health, together with the three campuses, University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus, Colorado State University, and the University of Northern Colorado, are dedicated to insuring a safe and secure environment for our faculty, staff, students and visitors. To assist in achieving that goal, we conduct criminal background investigations for all prospective employees.
