The Position. We invite applications for open rank tenure-track faculty in biostatistics to join the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics in summer 2023. Areas of interest include applied data science in public health, spatial statistics, statistical methodologies underlying complex health data analysis and contemporary statistical methodologies. Our department has a dynamic faculty body whose research is highly interdisciplinary across the College of Public Health as well as Temple University. We expect that the successful candidate will collaborate with other faculty, and those who have shown a successful track record in data-driven statistical methodologies are encouraged to apply

Qualifications. A doctorate in biostatistics, statistics, or a related field is required. Rank is open with faculty hired at the rank of assistant, associate, or full professor depending on qualifications. For early career applicants, preferred candidates   are individuals currently holding the rank of assistant professor or persons completing or having recently completed a postdoctoral position with external funding. Midcareer and senior applicants should have an active, externally-funded research portfolio and research record appropriate to warrant a tenured appointment at the rank of associate or full professor. Although we anticipate one hire in this area, we will consider cluster hiring of research teams including senior and early career faculty. Salary and benefits are competitive and commensurate with credentials and experience. The Department. The Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics combines curiosity with rigorous, applied methods that lead to compelling questions and impactful results to improve public health. Our 17 faculty members conduct research in causal inference, missing data and measurement error, semiparametric regression, latent variable modeling and psychometrics as well as behavioral and chronic disease epidemiology, cancer prevention and control, substance use disorders, infectious diseases, pediatric environmental health and immune responses, environmental and occupational exposures, waterborne diseases, cognitive decline and cardiovascular disease. The department annually enrolls >2,000 undergraduate and graduate students with diverse backgrounds and has ~80 graduate students in six programs: MS in Public Health Data Science; MS in Epidemiology; MPH degrees in Epidemiology (in-person and online), Applied Biostatistics, and Environmental Health; and PhD in Epidemiology.

The College. Devoted to an interprofessional environment for education, research, and practice, the CEPH-accredited College of Public Health consists of academic units in the public health disciplines, health professions, and the School of Social Work, enrolling approximately 4,200 students. The college’s research aims to understand the fundamental factors that affect the health and well-being of individuals and populations by examining health problems through foundational research, policy and practice, and the development and dissemination of evidence-based interventions. We focus on social determinants of health and social justice with strengths in cancer, obesity, HIV, substance abuse, mental illness, mobility research, cognition and language, developmental disabilities, organ transplantation and aging. College research is funded by the National Institutes of Health, Department of Defense, National Science Foundation, Gates Foundation, other major private foundations, and state and federal agencies. The college is home to an Office for Community Engaged Research and Practice, the Center for Obesity Research and Education, and the Collaborative on Community Inclusion. The Office of Clinical Affairs and Interprofessional Education leads our clinical activities, including the COVID-19 RapidVax effort and forward-looking interprofessional education within the college and throughout the university. The college is staffed by a robust complement of seasoned professionals including offices of Communications and Marketing, Information Technology, Sponsored Research, and Academic Affairs.
