Job Description

The Department of Psychology, College of Science, at Virginia Tech invites applications for multiple Assistant Professor, tenure-track faculty positions in Clinical Science to begin August 2023 in our nationally recognized (2017 ABCT Outstanding Training Program) and dually accredited (APA and PCSAS) doctoral program.

We welcome applications from individuals conducting research in any area of clinical psychology, including but not limited to stress and adaptation; developmental psychopathology, including autism and other child/adolescent disorders; risk and trauma; prevention/intervention programs or the dissemination and implementation of evidence-based practices; family, community, and global contexts; socioemotional and/or neurocognitive functioning; health and opportunity disparities; culture and psychopathology. Our department values a wide range of methods and approaches, including neurobiological (e.g. fMRI/EEG/ERP), sociocultural, translational, computational, qualitative, big-data, and community engaged research. Similarly, skills in advanced statistical expertise are of interest. All applicants are expected to have a strong and fundable program of research and to contribute to both graduate and undergraduate supervision and instruction in clinical science. Individuals studying the effects of adversity, social determinants, race/ethnicity, discrimination, neurodiversity, or those whose work samples predominantly under-represented or minoritized populations are especially encouraged to apply.

Located at the main campus in Blacksburg, Virginia, the clinical science program has three in-house training clinics: the Psychological Services Center, Child Study Center, and Autism Clinic/Center for Autism Research. Candidates should be licensed or license-eligible in Virginia, and will be expected to supervise clinical practicum, teach graduate and undergraduate courses, mentor undergraduate and doctoral students, and engage in department, college, and university-level service activities. As a hub discipline, research in the Clinical Science area aligns with several of the university’s Transdisciplinary Communities/Strategic Growth Areas (https://www.provost.vt.edu/destination_areas.html), most notably Adaptive Brain and Behavior across the lifespan, Data and Decisions, Global Systems Science, Policy, and Equity and Social Disparity in the Human Condition. Required Qualifications

We seek clinical scientists with an exemplary track record in research, including obtaining (or potential for obtaining) extramural funding. Candidates must hold a doctorate in Psychology or allied discipline by the time of appointment, and must be licensed or license eligible in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Candidates will be expected to develop an innovative research program, evidenced by a record of high quality publications and external research support, combined with a strong commitment to undergraduate and graduate level teaching and mentorship.

Preferred Qualifications

Preference is for candidates with doctoral training in clinical psychology or clinical science. Candidates who can contribute to an overarching department initiative to enhance diversity and our understanding of diversity are particularly encouraged to apply. We have special interest in applicants whose research programs intersect with the other graduate concentrations in the department (Developmental Science, Biological Psychology and Industrial/Organizational Psychology).
