The founding Assistant Vice President and Executive Director for Career Design and Connections brings together career services, internship and co-op support, student employment, pre-professional programming, and non-credit professional development programming to create interactions and connections between students, alumni, employers, and organizations to generate opportunities for students to pursue their academic, career and postgraduate objectives.

 

 

Essential Duties, Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Provides leadership and sets strategy for the Career Center that is responsible for career fairs and recruiting events, career programming and individualized career advising; develops and builds a Career Design plan and framework that allows students to align their academic and co-curricular experiences to reach their career goals; and provides oversight of technology tools and platforms utilized by students in their career discernment and search.
  • Manage and oversee Career, Professional Development and Connections, which consist of a team responsible for building upon BGSU partnership and alumni connections to develop opportunities for employment for BGSU students. Hire and develop content expert "Connectors" to guide students in their career goals to achieve the jobs they want while also interacting with employers.
  • Develop a robust plan to capture and share BGSU's first destination career outcomes (career, and graduate and professional school placement) broadly with campus stakeholders to include Vice Presidents and Deans.
  • Increase the Career Design and Connections visibility and create strategies that increase inclusive participation by diverse populations and organizations to achieve individual and organizational success.
  • Manage and oversee Student Employment Services, for both work-study and non-work study student positions and all graduate assistantships across both academic and operational units; develop and implement strategies to ensure Student Employment Services supports students' on-campus employment in areas that align with a student's career interests.
  • Grow the employer portfolio to expand opportunities locally, regionally, nationally, and internationally that are available for BGSU graduates.
  • Develop a strong partnership with the Center for College and Life Design (CCLD) to align with BGSU's strategic plan, Forward; develop strategies in collaboration with the executive director of CCLD to incorporate programming, activities and student engagement strategies into College and Life Design; collaborate with the CCLD executive director and academic leaders to analyze labor market demographics and career and occupational trends, as appropriate, to ensure educational programs remain relevant for today's society.
  • Leverage design thinking knowledge and strategies to institute appropriate tools and metrics to track student engagement, retention, and persistence for those students engaged in the Centers for College and Life Design and Career Design and Connections; responsible for increasing the university's post-graduation success outcomes in terms of first destination careers and graduate and professional school placements and career readiness competencies.
  • Collaborate with undergraduate and graduate admissions offices to support new student yield and facilitate matriculation to BGSU; collaborate with appropriate partners to support retention.
  • Work with the Vice President of University Advancement to leverage the nearly 195,000 alumni to connect, engage and support BGSU students.
  • Collaborate with college deans, other university administrators, faculty, and staff to provide strategies to improve career services for students in all majors and link these students to opportunities for employment and careers; work collaboratively with the Vice Provost and Dean of the Graduate and Professional Programs to increase graduate students' use of the HUB and increase employment rates.
  • Launch a comprehensive professional development initiative and lead efforts to offer innovative, micro credentials, certificates, and professional development for students, alumni, and working professionals to leverage degrees, experience and training to optimize career opportunities


 

 

Knowledge, Skills or Abilities

  • Understanding of concepts, or experience with, design thinking practices

 

 

 

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree required. Degree must be conferred at the time of application

 

Required experience:

  • Five years of leadership experience in higher education and/or corporate/external talent operations


Preferred experience:

  • Seven years of supervision experience
  • Experience with a framework and strategies involving career design, life design and innovation

 

 

 

Salary

Full-time administrative staff position available.  Administrative grade level 362.  Salary to commensurate with education and experience.  Full benefits package available.
