Position Summary:

The director is responsible for oversight of all administrative aspects of the Bradbury Museum, including developing long-range exhibition schedule, exhibition installation, manage the university art collection, maintain the records of the university collection, curate, and provide vision and focus for the Museum. Additionally, the director must prepare reports, grant applications, proposals and work closely with the Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Communication.

Duties & Responsibilities:

 

  • Select and supervise all aspects of mounting of all exhibitions in the Bradbury Museum including but not limited to arranging for or curating exhibitions; scheduling, layout, hanging and lighting exhibitions; preparing walls, and pedestals; framing art; maintaining equipment, security systems and Museum and preparation room climate controls; coordinating receipt and return of artworks; completing condition reports; arranging for insurance coverage for exhibitions; obtaining loan forms from individual artists and organizations and arranging receptions for exhibitions
  • Oversee all aspects of maintaining the A-State Permanent Collection of Art. This includes but is not limited to maintaining a database of all known works of art in the collection; annually verify location, inspect, document and conserve, move or remove and install or de-install works on loan
  • Develop and direct the annual Delta National Small Prints Exhibition
  • Supervise, schedule and train students who are attendants in the Museum during regular hours of operation and who also assist with general exhibition preparations and Museum operations
  • Write press releases, public service announcements, design posters and any other informational materials used to develop public relations and awareness
  • Manage Museum budgets and work with the Office of Advancement to obtain additional funds for the Bradbury Museum, including grant writing
  • In preparation for Senior Exhibitions in the Bradbury Museum, work with graduating seniors to develop student resumes, press releases, invitations, tags, signage and insurance/price lists. Teach graduating seniors all aspects of and proper techniques used to mount their exhibitions
  • Develop, direct and coordinate educational programs to accompany Museum exhibitions
  • Design, write essays for and supervise production of brochures, catalogs, invitations and other support documents for exhibitions
  • Develop touring exhibitions from university collections and other institutions and granting agencies
  • Perform related responsibilities as required and assigned by the Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Communication

 

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Excellent oral and written communication skills as well as interpersonal relationship skills, and be knowledgeable in the art

Able to generate and maintain contacts with artists, curators, and Museum directors and build a network of artists and associates ensuring the ability to curate, secure and mount exhibitions

Have the ability to be an advocate for the arts

Able to interact effectively with faculty, students, administration and public

Monday - Friday
8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Minimum Qualifications:

An earned Master's Degree related to art, museum studies or art administration
