The University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB), Office of the Provost seeks a Director for the Faculty Center for Teaching and Learning (FCTL, www.umaryland.edu/fctl/ ), who will advance, support, and sustain an inclusive culture of academic excellence across the Institution. The mission of the FCTL is to advance evidence-based teaching and learning, and assessment and evaluation practices throughout the University community. The FCTL partners with faculty, staff, and administrators in the curation, collaboration, and co-creation of teaching and learning resources for educational enhancement and student success.

The Director will be appointed to the Graduate School faculty in the Department of Health Professions Education at a rank commensurate with the incumbent’s experience and scholarly contributions. The Health Professions Education Department offers certificate-level, masters-level, and PhD training in the discipline ( www.graduate.umaryland.edu/healthprofessionsedMS/ and www.graduate.umaryland.edu/healthprofessionsed/ ).The Director reports to the Assistant Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs and candidates should have experience in faculty and/or organizational development, and a record of teaching in health and human services education. Additionally, critical to the Director role is previous experience with collaboration across university schools, evidence-based practice, developing faculty skills for teaching, learning, assessment, and scholarship.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Plan and implement faculty development programs for existing and new faculty.
  • Seek to advance current research and scholarship on learning (cognitive, affective, etc.) with attention to various learning settings at UMB: classroom, clerkships, field practicums, hybrid/online, and simulation laboratories.
  • Support a collaborative approach to assessment for learning that reaches across disciplines and schools.
  • Support multiple stakeholders with distance education and scale FCTL staff and resources based on need and resources.
  • Develop programs to amplify teaching and learning research and scholarship.
  • Develop research-based programming for inclusive pedagogies that support UMB’s diverse and multinational student body.
  • Promote student, faculty and institutional learning through assessment that is tied to equitable opportunities and outcomes for all students (online and face to face).
Faculty Duties
  • Demonstrate and model excellence in teaching and learning within the graduate school.
  • Mentor and support graduate students in their educational research and dissertation process.
  • Develop and teach new courses in evidence-based educational content.
Qualifications :

Essential Qualifications
  • Terminal degree (at Doctoral level), in a related field
  • At least 3 years of relevant work and experience in the areas of teaching, learning, faculty development and/or assessment in higher education.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability
  • Experience with program planning and assessment of learning practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with diverse groups of faculty, staff, and students.
  • Experience with inclusive pedagogies and equity-based programming online and face to face.
  • Experience with the application of educational technologies in teaching, learning and assessment.
  • Strong communication skills - verbal, written and visual.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated experience in adult learning and clinical pedagogies.
  • Experience and knowledge of the research and practice in teaching and learning in the health and human services professions.
  • Experience and knowledge of research-based approaches to curriculum development and pedagogy that support and sustain inclusion and equity.
  • Experience with the design, implementation, and assessment of faculty health and human services professional development programs, preferably in a leadership role.
  • Demonstrated managerial and operational experience, including the ability to set and manage a budget, to manage multiple projects simultaneously, and to delegate responsibility.
  • Two or more years of direct experience leading a new or growing Center for Teaching and Learning.
