Job Duties:
The position of Systems Administrator works closely with the Network and Systems Engineer in the Information Technology Services (ITS) department as part of the team involved with installation and management of all central network, computing, and storage resources in a Windows and Linux environment. This position is directly responsible for account management, backups, provisioning of computing, storage, and network resources, and all daily central computing/network management tasks as required. This position is the primary backup to the Network and Systems Engineer.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Install, configure, monitor, and manage all central network and application servers (HW/SW/VM)
  • Audit and manage Microsoft and Unix based servers (HW/SW/VM) and associated logs
  • Troubleshoot and resolve server and AD issues
  • Research, evaluate, recommend, and implement security and management enhancements
  • Install and manage enterprise applications
  • Configure, install, monitor, and manage backup systems
  • Create and schedule daily backups
  • Verify mission critical backups complete successfully and upload/replicate to the cloud
  • Develop and maintain rotational off-site storage of removable media backups
  • Oversee and manage emergency generator testing, services, and contract
  • Provide daily account management and resource assignments
  • Provision, manage, and deprovision Active Directory (AD) and other associated accounts
  • Create and manage AD security and distribution groups
  • Manage MS Systems Center Configuration Manager and its subcomponents
  • Manage and track the distribution and use of DHCP assigned, reserved, and statically assigned IP addresses
  • Create and manage enterprise shares
  • Provision and manage VPN, wireless, and mobile resources and their access
  • Assist with the management of the storage area network (SAN) devices
  • Manage network attached storage (NAS) devices
  • Manage on-site optical storage system
  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and respond to system level issues relating to all server, storage, network, and Internet resources
  • Assist in the configuration, monitoring, and management of enterprise security tools such as web filter, email virus and spam firewall, and email archive system
  • Monitor and adjust the distribution of uninterruptable power supply (UPS) devices in the data room to ensure all devices are on covered and multiple-power supply devices have fault tolerance coverage
  • Monitor and assist with the VoIP environment and services
  • Share after-hours monitoring and response as scheduled and as necessary
  • Ensure appropriate security practices are in place and followed in all areas of responsibility
  • Collaborate with technical team on the development and implementation of all systems and processes as required
  • Follow a central, standardized approach to technology management as a foundation for all work completed
  • Other duties as assigned.






Required Qualifications:
  • Baccalaureate degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or a discipline with defined structure, logic, and problem solving required or equivalent work experience may be substituted. Master’s degree preferred.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of full-time work experience managing information technology. Two (2) years of experience with primary job responsibilities for providing highly available, enterprise network/systems resources to a large user community requiring online access 24X7 is desired.
  • Specific experience is needed with enterprise backup systems; enterprise and workgroup file management; Network attached storage (NAS); Internet Protocol version 4 (IPv4) management; Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI); Active Directory, Red Hat Linux; Microsoft Exchange E-Mail, and other technologies adopted with hands-on experience in upgrading and replacing components in servers, external and network storage devices. The CompTIA Security + Certified or other security/network certification is highly desired.
  • The position requires individuals who possess excellent communication, interpersonal, customer service and organizational skills and have the ability to work cooperatively with a diverse population of students, faculty, and staff.
  • This position requires evening and weekend work as needed.
