The Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs (VCAA) is the chief academic officer for the campus and is responsible directly to the Campus Chancellor with indirect reporting to the Ivy Tech Community College System Senior Vice President/Provost and Senior Vice President Workforce Alignment for the development, administration, supervision, and evaluation of the campus academic programs. The Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs will serve as chief advisor to the Chancellor in the formation of policies affecting all academic programs, and will provide leadership and supervision for the campus academic schools and other areas including the learning resource center, instructional technology, and library services.

As the chief academic officer for the campus, this position has direct responsibility for the development, coordination, staffing, evaluation, continuous quality improvement, and workforce alignment of academic programs, as well as research, academic/campus planning, and budgeting within the context of the College’s mission and purposes. The position is responsible for the overall student academic experience at the campus.

The VCAA will be a member of the Chancellor’s cabinet with the purpose of providing leadership that aligns with the College’s core values and implementing strategies to meet the needs of a diverse community and student body on campus. On the cabinet, the Vice Chancellor serves as a model for strong leadership, develops and supports the Campus culture of team collaboration, and demonstrates a commitment to delivering high quality services and outcomes by being student-and employee-centered.

The VCAA promotes diversity, integrity, community engagement, innovation, and excellence; is accountable to perform statewide responsibilities to maintain consistent statewide curricula, policies, and practices. This position will work closely with appropriate System Office leadership to establish strategies coordinated with statewide efforts in key areas of focus (recruitment, enrollment, completion, retention, and student success).

Hiring Deadline: November 2022 or as soon thereafter as possible. Please note that the search committee expects to conduct semifinalist interviews on October 19th, so that finalist interviews can be completed October 27th.

Minimum Qualifications:

Doctorate degree from an accredited college or university and a minimum of five years’ experience in higher education   at accredited institutions;

A combination of teaching and administrative experience; a track record of thinking conceptually and mastering complex subject matters quickly; and proven ability to identify key issues and carry forward an idea or project from conception to execution;

Excellent written and oral communication skills;

Good judgment, discretion, tact, and the ability to work easily with senior leaders within the higher education, charitable, government, and business sectors; ability to partner well with colleagues both in and outside of the organization; adept at resolving individual and group conflicts; and

Ability to promote an inclusive environment that reflects the broad diversity and backgrounds represented by students and employees, in which every individual feels respected and valued.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

Community college experience; experience working at an institution that is part of a state system; experience as a dean or department chair;

Demonstrated engagement in diversity, equity and belonging work on a college campus; ability to build relationships in diverse communities across the Indianapolis service area;

Ability to balance the hands-on technical responsibilities of academic services manager with strategic and leadership role; ability to manage competing demands;

Demonstrated collaboration skills within academic affairs (faculty, staff, administrators) and across the campus;

A history of collaborating with student affairs/ student success;

A broad range of leadership experience to apply to position responsibilities and contribute to the Chancellor’s cabinet; the ability to balance compliance and collaboration;

Successful experience with grant writing, budget management, accreditation process, and program review; and

Demonstrated ability to work with budgets and to provide stability within the cyclical ups and downs of institutional funding.
