About the Opportunity

Summary:

The Northeastern University Enrollment Research & Analytics team provides timely data analytics that inform and help guide strategic decision making across the entirety of the student lifecycle, from recruitment and enrollment through to persistence and graduation. Such analysis contributes to student recruitment strategy, admissions strategy and reporting, financial aid leveraging, predictive yield modeling, enrollment forecasting, and retention research. Reporting to the Associate Director of Survey Research and Data Analytics, the Assistant Director of Enrollment Analytics will support Enrollment Management by providing data and analysis to inform strategic and tactical decisions.

Responsibilities:
  • Leverage data management, analysis, and visualization skills to develop and standardize meaningful, user-friendly reports and dashboards for monitoring internal measures of operational performance. This includes reports and dashboards addressing enrollment, credit hour production, and gross tuition revenue; as well as student retention, graduation, and persistence metrics.
  • Manage the enrollment reporting landscape—including access, permissions, and data security—for multiple internal audiences within the university.
  • Build queries to extract and aggregate data from various sources, including student database and CRM systems, other University offices, the University data warehouse, as well as external agencies and institutions.
  • Monitor and clean large data sets to ensure reporting efficiency and accuracy. Collaborate with internal partners to identify, investigate, and resolve data quality issues.
  • Analyze quantitative and qualitative data to inform decision-making. Discover and communicate significant patterns, trends, and stories with enrollment data; provide recommendations based on analysis.
  • Support the creation of enrollment and credit hour production models in support of the annual enrollment planning and goal-setting process.
  • Support ad-hoc data requests and projects as needed.

The individual in this position must understand the uses of student information within a university setting and work to enhance the quality and utility of the data produced from various systems. Strong technical and interpersonal skills are essential, as well as the ability to think critically and analytically, work independently and handle multiple tasks. The ability to distill and convey findings clearly is a critical component of the work.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • At least 2-5 years of demonstrated proficiency in data analysis, data visualization, and reporting, with experience cleaning and manipulating large, complex datasets.
  • Advanced practical experience with BI and data analysis software (Tableau, Alteryx, Excel, etc.) required. Proficiency using SQL to query data stored in relational databases strongly preferred. Programming experience (e.g., R, Python) a plus.
  • Demonstrated understanding of data structures and common methods of data extraction and transformation.
  • Experience with relational databases and CRM systems required; Banner and Salesforce a plus.
  • Ability to analyze data, recognize patterns, and provide informed recommendations to support decision making. Experience developing and implementing predictive models a plus.
  • Strong technical, organizational, and interpersonal skills are essential, as well as the ability to think critically, work independently and solve problems creatively.
  • Excellent data visualization, report preparation, and written communication skills; ability to summarize and present analytic findings in ways that are accessible to non-technical audiences.
  • Demonstrated curiosity and persistence in navigating technical challenges.
  • Understanding of—or interest in—higher education management a plus.
