Legal Fellow - School of Law

About the Opportunity

Northeastern University School of Law's (NUSL) Center for Law, Information, and Creativity (CLIC) is excited to announce a new, two-year academic fellowship for recent law graduates, post-doctoral candidates, and other qualified individuals who are interested in pursuing a career in legal academia and have a particular interest in the intersections among law, technology, and society. The Fellowship provides mentorship, experience, and guidance as Fellows write scholarly articles, participate in faculty workshops, engage in NUSL's vibrant and progressive academic community, and prepare for a career as a law teacher, scholar, and/or advocate. The inaugural fellow is expected to be in residence for the 2023-2025 academic years.

Topic Areas

The Legal Fellowship is geared toward individuals who are interested in pursuing scholarship and advocacy at the intersection of law, technology, and social justice, broadly defined. That includes many things, and candidates are encouraged to frame their research agendas under that wide umbrella. We are particularly interested in candidates who seek to focus on technology and anti-subordination, privacy and sexuality (including sexual orientation and gender identity), and race and surveillance, among many other topics.

Scholarship and Advocacy

The Fellowship will be flexible to adapt to the interests of the successful applicant. For Fellows interested in pursuing a career as a law teacher, the Fellow is expected to use their time at NUSL to produce scholarship in advance of entering the job market for a full-time academic appointment at a law school. NUSL's long-standing and well-recognized commitment to scholarship and impact makes NUSL an ideal place for incubating a career in either trajectory.

Community

The Fellow will be part of NUSL's academic community, a community of scholars and advocates with both a long history of and great passion for progressive causes and impact. The Fellow will be mentored by leading faculty at the intersection of law, technology, and social justice, as well as participate in faculty talks.

Resource

Northeastern offers significant support for its fellows. In addition to faculty mentors, the Fellow will receive office space, a research budget, and access to activities and research facilities. The Fellow will also be fully involved in faculty workshops. NUSL faculty will also help moot job talks.
