About the Opportunity

Summary & Responsibilities:

Under the direct supervision of the Senior Associate Director of Admission for Evaluation and Selection, the Associate Director of Admissions will collaborate with admissions leadership to manage the day-to-day operations of the application evaluation process and to set the application evaluation strategy and priorities.

The Associate Director will have strong skills in project management, process design, and will be innovative in identifying efficiencies and process improvements.

This process management will include leading the development of the application evaluation manual and file review training, monitoring reading queries and making daily reading assignments, supervising the review of special applicant populations, managing the quality control checks prior to releasing decisions, working with territory managers to share admission decisions to meet enrollment goals, and collaborating with the Senior Associate Director and Dean to set selection guidelines for the admitted class.

As part of the application evaluation process, the Associate Director of Admissions will supervise a Senior Assistant Director, who is charged with hiring and managing seasonal application evaluators.

In addition to the supervision of the Senior Assistant Director, this position includes the supervision of Assistant Directors and is responsible for their training, mentoring, and development. The incumbent will be engaged in long-term planning and evaluation, as well as resource assessment and management. The Associate Director serves on the office management team and assists in developing and implementing office policies and procedures. The position serves on campus-wide committees and represents the University to prospective students, families and secondary school counselors. The position also actively contributes to the office welfare by working collaboratively with managers in unit to achieve institutional enrollment goals.

As a territory manager, traditional responsibilities include: travel to attract and subsequently enroll freshman; develop and implement targeted programming efforts and activities; manage a territory throughout the admission cycle; evaluate freshman and transfer applicants for admission; counsel and advise students and families regarding the admission process; conduct interviews and presentations; and establish, develop and maintain relationships with school counselors and transfer advisors while marketing the University effectively.

This position will work closely with other University offices and programs, as well as with appropriate off-campus agencies and services relevant to this position. The Associate Director will conduct the role with the highest degree of professionalism, ensuring that the Northeastern brand and image are accurately conveyed. Some evening and weekend hours required.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree, masters preferred, and five to seven years of direct experience in college admission, specifically with a strong background in selective, holistic application evaluation.
  • Must be highly organized and detail oriented, with an aptitude for data-informed decision making and project management.
  • Familiarity with complex CRM systems, preferably Slate.
  • Experience to also include the counseling of students, and the evaluation of student credentials.
  • Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively, excellent communication and presentation skills, and supervisory abilities required.
