Faculty Positions Available

POSITION SUMMARY 

The Howard University School of Business invites applications for chairpersons that will act as the department lead administrator. The department chair is responsible for implementing University and School policies and procedures at the department level. This position reports to the Associate Dean of the School and works in cooperation with the faculty to ensure quality in educational delivery and compliance with AACSB accreditation standards.   

Applications for the following positions are requested: 

 

Chair of the Department of Accounting (rank of Associate/Full Professor)   

Applicants for the Chair of the Department of Accounting should have completed their doctoral degree from an AACSB accredited institution in accounting and should, at the minimum, meet the requirements for an Associate Professor. A CPA or a closely related certification (CMA, CIA, or CFE) is strongly preferred. Qualifications to teach one or more of the following subjects is required: financial accounting, managerial accounting, auditing, accounting information systems, governmental/not-for-profit accounting.  

Chair of the Department of Finance and International Business (rank of Associate/Full Professor)   

Applicants for the Chair of the Department of Finance and International Business should have completed their doctoral degree from an AACSB accredited institution in finance and should, at the minimum, meet the requirements for an Associate Professor. Certifications in finance related fields (e.g., CFP, CFA) are preferred. Qualifications to teach one or more of the following subjects is required: financial management, wealth management, private equity, financial markets, investment and portfolio management, financial modeling, investment banking, international business, and risk management.  

 

The department chair is responsible for administration and will perform the following: 

  • Faculty recruitment, development, and evaluation
  • Program development, review, evaluation, and assessment
  • Student advising 
  • Departmental budget development and implementation
  • Course schedule planning 
  • General coordination of the departmental research, teaching, and outreach activities 
  • Work with the Office of the Dean to maintain the AACSB accounting accreditation, 
  • Consult with the faculty in matters relevant to the academic programs and administration of the unit and be guided by the principle of shared governance, 
  • Collaborate with the centers of excellence to design, coordinate, deliver, and evaluate programs that enhance the accounting education. 

In addition, candidates will have a strong academic background and a demonstrated ability to publish in quality journals in their respective fields. Preference will be given to candidates who are qualified as Scholarly Academic based on faculty AACSB accreditation standards.
