About the Opportunity

Northeastern University is pleased to announce multiple research faculty positions in network science offered jointly by the Network Science Institute (NetSI) and Roux Institute. The positions are open rank, non-tenure-track research faculty positions located in the Roux, in Portland, Maine. All topic areas within network and computational sciences will be considered, but candidates with experience in the applied fields of computational epidemiology, digital health, population and personalized health, and life sciences are encouraged to apply.

The research faculty will be responsible for building an independent research program, aligned with the Roux and Network Science Institutes. Research may include studies of infectious disease forecasting, medical outcomes, coordination of medical care, digital health, mobility patterns, disease and social networks.

The successful candidate will be appointed as a research faculty member in one or more of Northeastern's Colleges and Departments, aligned with their background and expertise. They will report to their disciplinary department chair in their role as a faculty member, but their primary supervisory relationships and commitments will be within Roux and NetSI's research programs.

Network Science at Roux Institute

Research faculty will be members of both the Roux Institute and the Network Science Institute, and integrated into the unique settings of these communities. The Roux Institute, founded in 2020, is designed as an engine of innovation, talent, and economic growth in Portland, the state of Maine, and the region. The Roux is particularly dedicated to entrepreneurial activity, translational work, and community focused outcomes. With leading companies at the table from day one, research teams work together with Roux's entrepreneurship team and regional businesses to translate new research into business ventures. Network science translations may include platforms, algorithms, or information systems, such as for example, forecasting models for infectious diseases or medical outcomes, coordination or surveillance of medical services, and tools for digital or personalized health.

The Network Science Institute (NetSI), founded in 2014, has emerged as a world leader as a multi-disciplinary research communities in field of network science. NetSI brings together expertise from diverse disciplines, from the physical, information, and social sciences, aiming to build and expand common methodology and theory of networks, and to apply these tools to important societal challenges. With the goal of training a new generation of scholars, the Institute has developed the first U.S. based doctoral program in Network Science. Research faculty will be connected to NetSI's vibrant community, with dozens of externally funded research programs, diverse faculty, and a uniquely skilled pool of doctoral students.

The partnership between Roux and NetSI will establish new areas of growth at the intersection of scientific discovery, innovative educational programming, and meaningful entrepreneurship.

The Institutes are committed to open science and reproducibility and seek to support a community of scholars who value learning from people across a wide range of disciplinary and cultural backgrounds, and who take pride in their scientific integrity.
