About the Opportunity

Northeastern University invites applications for full-time, non-tenure track teaching faculty at the rank of Assistant/Associate/Full Teaching Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, located at the Institute for the Wireless Internet of Things in Boston, MA.

The Assistant/Associate/Full Teaching Professor will teach up to six (6) courses per academic year in support of the ECE undergraduate program, the M.S. in Electrical and Computer Engineering program with a concentration on Computer Networks and Security as well as in the upcoming new M.S. programs in Wireless and Network Systems and on the Internet of Things. This individual will collaborate with teaching and research faculty at the Institute for the Wireless Internet of Things to build curriculum in Boston and to support the expansion of the Electrical and Computer Engineering department programs in the regional campuses. This individual will also play a key role in growing the enrollment in the ECE/WIoT programs and in developing relationships with industry partners and customized learning experiences with the Institute partners (credit and non-credit bearing).

This unique position seeks to integrate professional practice into learner education, supporting Northeastern's mission to develop wholly immersive learning and discovery experiences. The successful candidate will hold a faculty appointment in Northeastern's Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering and will be a member of the Institute for the Wireless Internet of Things.

Teaching responsibilities are subject to modification based on the programs' needs based upon time commitment of the service requirements and require a willingness to support high-quality teaching and standards through preparation of lectures based on course materials provided; effective facilitation of rich, respectful debates and discussions in an in-person or hybrid class; timely review and grading of assignments with appropriate coaching and feedback to the students; consistent connection with students and their performance; adherence to Northeastern's policies.

The Institute for the Wireless Internet of Things (WIoT) at Northeastern University is an interdisciplinary research center, a think tank, and a technology incubator promoting advancement in the areas of connected systems and their societal applications and implications. WIoT conducts cutting-edge research, develops new cross-disciplinary educational models, and new technologies for networked systems at the intersection between the physical and the digital worlds and on their legal, economic, ethical, and policy implications. WIoT is funded through over $20M per year in federal and industry funding and is home to leading national programs such as the NSF Platforms for Advanced Wireless Research, 5G/6G R&D Centers, AI for wireless systems, and future spectrum exploitation. It has unique experimental capabilities including Colosseum, the world's largest RF emulator, and Teranova, the world's only testbed for Terahertz wireless networks. WIoT is home to an FCC Innovation Zone and at the center of a vibrant industry consortium.

WIoT seeks to grow undergraduate and graduate programs in wireless and network systems and on the Internet of Things to develop a vibrant and dynamic workforce to meet the needs of the future hyper connected society.

Required Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in electrical or computer engineering or related field by the appointment start date.

  • Well-versed in communication networks, wireless systems, and network security.

  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work productively and successfully interact with students, faculty, staff, and industry partners.
