Assistant/Associate Professor of Integrative Precision Food Science and Technology


Position Summary

Position Summary: The Department of Food Science and Technology ( FST ) at the University of Georgia ( UGA ) seeks a highly motivated and creative individual to develop and establish an innovative Research and Teaching program in Food Science and Technology to complement the Integrative and Precision Agriculture initiative across UGA . This faculty appointment will be 75% Research, 25% Teaching.

Responsibilities: The successful applicant will provide leadership and scholarship in Integrative Precision Food Science and Technology research and teaching. Specific responsibilities include (but are not limited to): (1) obtaining extramural funding to support research and teaching programs, (2) establishing a strong record of scholarly activity, (3) developing and teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in the Food Science curriculum (this may also include teaching existing classes as assigned), and (4) directing PhD and MS degree students and postdoctoral associates.

The candidate will be expected to actively participate in service activities in FST and global programs. The University of Georgia recognizes and supports interdisciplinary programs. As such, the successful candidate will be encouraged to collaborate with other faculty members across the Colleges of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, Engineering, and Family and Consumer Sciences. Possible research areas may include (but are not limited to) utilization of systems modeling to develop effective sustainability practices and strategies aimed at minimizing the environmental impact of food production/processing, CO2 reduction, energy and resource optimization, machine learning, data science, and AI-enabled decision support focused on pre- and post-harvest food production and processing, food safety, and other areas of critical importance to safeguard the future of the food industry.

The individual in this position will be expected to achieve a record of scholarly activity as evidenced by peer-reviewed publications, successful extramural funding, success in teaching university-level courses, and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students.

A Ph.D. in food, agricultural, biological, bioprocess, chemical engineering, or related field is required.

Additional Requirements

For the rank of Assistant Professor, candidates do not need a minimum number of years in a lower rank unless the initial appointment was at the instructor level ( https://provost.uga.edu/faculty-affairs/UGA_Guidelines_for_APT_approved_2_2020.pdf ).

To be considered at the rank of Associate Professor, candidates must have at least 5 full years in rank at the Assistant Professor level before the start date.
